Actually it's the media who should be blamed for taking his words out of context. He was condemning "violence in the name of God" and happened to quote someone from hundreds of years ago. It's a travesty that his condemnation of violence actually inspired people to do it.
"Violence is incompatible with the nature of God and the nature of the soul," he said, issuing an open invitation to dialogue among cultures.

Yes, I have heard this and that several churches (non-Catholic, I might add) have been torched in protest to his comments. His statement was just that, but the reactions prove his statement true. When the different Clerics and Muslim leaders suggest that Israel and Jews get wiped off the face of the earth, you didn't hear of Muslim Mosques getting burned down and Muslims killed in response....and the Cartoons regarding the Holocaste hasn't posed any problems of violence from the Jews or Christians, so in effect hasn't the Pope's statement (quoted from another timeperiod) just proved it true? I think Muslims should take a long look at the violence that their religion instills.....

No. The Pope was quoting history. If the Muslims do not like it, then they should convert ot Christianity. The fact that a nun was shot just proves the point made by the historical statement that Muslim are terrorists.

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Al Qaeda militants in Iraq vowed war on "worshippers of the cross" and protesters burned a papal effigy on Monday over Pope Benedict's comments on Islam, while Western churchmen and statesmen tried to calm passions.
The statement by an umbrella group led by Iraq's branch of al Qaeda came after the Pontiff said on Sunday he was deeply sorry Muslims had been offended by his use of a medieval quotation on Islam and holy war.
"We tell the worshipper of the cross (the Pope) that you and the West will be defeated, as is the case in Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechnya," said a Web statement by the Mujahideen Shura Council.
"We shall break the cross and spill the wine ... God will (help) Muslims to conquer Rome ... (May) God enable us to slit their throats, and make their money and descendants the bounty of the mujahideen," said the statement, posted on Sunday on an Internet site often used by al Qaeda and other militant groups.

NO. Pope was right. He's point out the truth. He's is pointing out the fact that Islam is not a true religion. And the anger of the Islam people is showing that they are not holy people.

No, The Pope has the right to speak his mind, If the pope has to do this then get in line G. Bush,T Blair...., What most people is afraid of is that they will target catholic churches with people in it to get their message across.

The pope needs to teach salvation through accpetance of Jesus as their savior, wrather than go out and critisize others for what they do wrong. You must tend to your own household and get it right with God before you try to lead some one else down the rightous path. How can someone lead another down a rightous path if they aren't walking it themselves? It can't be done.\
Unless you accept Jesus as your savior, and repent of your sins, and turn your life over to Jesus, you will not see the kingdom of Heaven. You must be born again.
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
