Obviously some generalisations are true, in that they define a group: All Christians believe Jesus was the son of God, for example; all muslims believe the Angel Gabriel revealed the word of God to Muhammad. But these are just definitions.
A lot of the questions in Religion and Spirituality are generalisations ("Why are all muslims terrorists?", "Why do atheists always just bash christians?" etc etc), and generalisations are easy to refute by counterexample.
So why do SO many people waste their time making these generalisations?

Chazerai - if you read the above, there are NO generalisations in there.

I think a lot has to do with validation of their own beliefs. If everyone else it opposite to what they believe then theirs is more 'right'. Allowing themselves to see things from the perspectives of other beliefs may lead them to question their own beliefs and that is something that some are not ready for and some just cannot handle.

Irrational thinking processes. There is no logic involved, only faith - so they just believe whatever it is they need to believe and never think about the rationality (or lack thereof). Also, for many, it's just to stand on a soap box and get confirmation of their insane views by all the other wacky people who generalize. So, basically, I think most of them do it in attempt to validate their insanity.

It's not just the religion and spirituality category. Have you noticed the generalizations about men or women, or how about certain animals like aggressive dog breeds? It's just human nature.

Sad but true. I've stopped responding to many of these so-called "questions". It's like wrestling a pig in a mud hole. Sooner or later it dawns on you that the pig likes it.

I guess that is humanity for you. None is perfect and all fall short of the glory of God. If they are truly interested in learning then so be it. I have commented on generalizations before myself and a few have changed their wording. That is good and appreciated.

Because they aren't really asking questions they are stating their opinions and trying to influence people.
Religion and Logic don't mix.

I don't believe they can think beyond that and realize that each person is an individual who brings all of his/her experiences into play in any given situation.

Obviously, they are not of God. Satan is the author of confusion, don't allow yourself to be ensnared by that poison.
