Someone asked this in answer to another question (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/?qid=20060817065238AAYV6lm&r=w), and I thought it deserved its own thread.

My own answer to this is that he has proven it. He has proven himself to countless millions of people throughout centuries of human history. But some will insist that he must prove himself a certain way, for example, with miraculous signs and wonders. We forget that God 'answers' to no one...unless he wants to. And he will reveal himself to those who are able to approach him with genuine humility.

How about you? What do you think?

What is the meaning of life? All religions welcome to answer. No answer is wrong or right, I just wonder what everyone else thinks. Is it to be fruitful and multiply? To worship a certain God or gods? To become, as Neitsche said, Uberman? Thank you for your answers.

A perfect being cannot lie. I think we can all agree upon that.
So, when jesus said in Mark 11:24 "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."
And in John 14:12-14;
14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

14:14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

So that there is no confusion here, JESUS himself said these words. And since he is god, and perfect, he cannot lie.

Why then does he not heal amputees? You'd think that in the history of the world, someone, somewhere who lost a limb or even a pinky, would have asked for it to be re-grown. And not once in history has this happened. Is god just a liar? And a cruel one at that?

Using our sense of reasoning:
Since the time of the Romans, high taxes were forced from the poor and a vulgar sum spent on bulding opulent churches, many of them still standing today. Look at many of the thousands of churches built not too long ago.. multi-million dollar mega projects!
Can't people worship in much simpler churches and donate the millions to the poor, starving Africans, etc who die in the thousands everyday?

My daughter attends a large University, she is in her 3rd year. As a Christian she has had numerous nasty run-ins with atheist professors who have not withheld their hate for Christianity and Christians in general...one told her that EVERY Christian is a moron and 5000 years behind in the times. BTW..my money pay's his salary...and Christian founded this school 137 years ago.

Why on earth do we allow these people to teach our children when the vast majority of us don't agree with these people?

I know most of these people can't get REAL jobs outside of accademia...they can't survive in the real world...but why should we put up with these nasty liberals who are so far outside the main-stream of the vast majority of us. I've read in a survey that not one describes themselves as a Christian...92% vote democratic.

why do we put up with this?

Good morning, I'm an agnostic not wanting to convert anyone.

One of the things I have done in the past is to make fun of people who think homosexuality is a sin. This might have been unfair, since I never really asked anyone who thought homosexuality was a sin. So in the interest of creating a database of answers here on yahoo, to those who think that homosexuality is a sin, why do you think that.

And just curious also, if you feel the need to quote Leviticus 18:22, please read Leviticus 11:9-12, and when you type that God thinks homosexuality is an abomination, be sure an address why shrimp is an abomination.

Also, please explain why some Christians say the Old Testement doesn't apply after Jesus's death on the cross, but they reference Leviticus 18:22 when they say how God feels about homosexuality.

Thanks.

I was watching this program on TV that said that the reason why the women in Islamic countries cover themselves in public is because they want them to be judged by their intelligence and capacities, not their physical appearance, which makes sense to me now.

All the women in America and other parts of the World like to show off their bodies but as a result we tend to get more judged for our physical appearances than our capacities in the modern world.

My question is: Who determined in the Islam religion and culture that the women must cover themselves to better their society?

This is more of a staw poll than a question, because I actually know a bit about Jehovah's Witnesses in terms of who they are and how they do their religion. I hasten to add, though, that I am not a Jehovah's Witness myself - I'm an atheist and remain more than happy to stay that way.

What I am after - and what I would very much appreciate - is an insight in to what you personally know about Jehovah's Witnesses right now. A pop quiz, if you like. And preferably answers based solely on your own knowledge of the religion. In others words PLEASE don't look them up on the net before answering.

I'm not as interested in the actual facts about Jehovah's Witnesses so much as your understanding of them. The reason for this?

I am told by a Jehovah's Witness that they are well known right around the world and most people will know what they stand for. I would like to gather some answers from people all around the world (or at least within Yahoo Q&A) to put this to the test.

The teacher announced to her class that she was an Atheist and asked if any other's are too.

The class wanting to be like the well liked teacher all raised their hands not knowing what
an atheist was...except one little girl.

She didn't raise her hand...so the teacher wanting to embarrass and humiliate her in
front of the class asked her...WELL...then what
are YOU?

And the little girl said in her sweet little voice:
I'm a Christian!

This enraged the teacher...and she asked her: Are your parents Christians, and the little girl said...YES they are...then the teacher said what if your parents were idiots...would this make you and idiot too???

and the little girl said no...then I'd be an atheist!

I remember in school how the staff was liberal and atheist...I remember how they used humiliation and tried to make you feel so stupid if you believe in God and went to church. NEVER allow them to tell you they are in any way victims!!!

Okay, I know God allows him to torture people in THIS life (see Job) but does it actually mention anywhere his function in the afterlife? Or is this just another thing Christianity has added over the years? Please point me to specific verses in the Old or New Testament.

When I was a little girl, there always seemed to be pretty long lines for confession every late Saturday afternoon.

But these days, I show up to church for confession on Saturday afternoons, and there are never more than a handful of people there.

As for myself, I go to confession at least once a month. The last time I went was a week ago Saturday.

He who sheds man"s blood
shall have his blood shed by man
For in the image of God
Man was made.
Genesis 9: 6
When he said that he was God, was he saying that all men were God, in the sense that we were made in God's image, and therefore we should learn to love that about each other? I went back and re-read this part of Genesis and, after reading the Gospels, had a different view of it's meaning. Thoughts?
