Someone asked this in answer to another question (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/?qid=20060817065238AAYV6lm&r=w), and I thought it deserved its own thread.

My own answer to this is that he has proven it. He has proven himself to countless millions of people throughout centuries of human history. But some will insist that he must prove himself a certain way, for example, with miraculous signs and wonders. We forget that God 'answers' to no one...unless he wants to. And he will reveal himself to those who are able to approach him with genuine humility.

How about you? What do you think?

This is like theology 101 in most religions. Either you believe it or you don't.

You're mistaken. Every single "miracle" that has ever been described and/or witnessed in modern history can be explained perfectly logically. Someone can attach "god" to anything they want, but they're reaching.

As far as God proving he exists... according to the bible, he did. He used to do all kinds of big explosive magical things, that proved he existed. Unfortunately, he's decided to play an interdimensional game of hide and seek with us ever since.

Surely you can see how ridiculous this primitive snow job is? Just because it's been ingrained into your mind since you were born doesn't make it any more real, or any more believable. You have been fooled. Think for yourself. Apply your critical thinking to this issue, and don't allow the religious brainwashing to distract you. Think about it objectively. It is clear as a bell. Your god is imaginary. Your religion is a confidence game. And you are being deluded...

I believe your right,And if people would stop to consider the miracles HE displays before our very eyes they may reconsider their illogical conclusions,But you know as well as I do they are going by their own understanding and they were lead there by the blind guides that fell into the ditch they are heading for.How can they possibly not consider things such as the sun that never explodes, never sends off a huge solar flare propelling it at us or out of orbit. But it remains right where it is burning at just the right consistency.Or those clouds that don't really have much substance, yet they pick up enough water to flood states.Mind you a pond of water 20' x 20' x 1" deep weighs approx.2 tons.To me that's pretty impressive since they have no use for the water except to fulfill their task God programmed them too. Too keep the trees and grass watered so we have life sustaining oxygen. But then you know those Ape people among us have to figure up stupid idiotic theories that have absolutely no reality behind them,Like the Big-Band B.S. For the main reason most explosions create flat jagged projectiles,Not perfectly round ones.Obviously they need more schooling,In my opinion.May GOD Bless You.

When people look for proof...I do what Jesus did when satan tempted him...i give them nothing but the word...why? because that is the example Jesus set for us..since it is and never was my job to convince any man ...think about it that is the job of the Holy Ghost..he came into the world to convict of sin...
John 16:8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

Remember the story of the rich man and lazurus the rich man had 5 brothers and he said send one from the dead..and abraham replied they have the law and the prophets (the old testament) let them hear them...why ?..because if a man rose from the dead and went to someone and said ,,hey i just came back from the dead and let me tell you....That man would be scorned ...laughed at mocked and put to shame...because people would rather hear a lie than the truth anyway...but here is what Jesus said about it ...Mind you he gave them the clue as to what the sign would be ..and it happened..and look they still don't believe...

Matthew 12:39-40...But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:
40. For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

God bless

"God" or "gods" exist only in one's Mind. That is why it/she/they cannot show proof of existence. That is why the stories of miracles/magic which supposedly took place hundreds of years ago, can never stand today, because people are getting more educated and acquring more facts and knowledge. The gods could have stopped the tsunamis, (just like like creating a land path by splitting the sea into two); changed the stones to bread in Africa to feed the thousands who die daily of starvation (just like turning some stones to bread & water to wine) and cure the millions of seriously ill around the world (just like making the blind see, the lame, walk).
Millions of Earthlings (both literate and illiterate) worship their chosen god/gods out of fear of the unknown (many Asians still believe in Sky God, Moon God, Sun God, Fertility God, etc.
Do a search on Yahoo, and notice the hundreds of religious beliefs (including the main ones like Christianity, Islam, Taoism, Judaism, Sikkhism, Hinduism). Of course certain religions will lay claim that theirs is the only TRUE god while the rest are all bunkum! (Resulting in the start of the mother of all troubles in the world - religious wars which all the gods can't stop!)
If you want proof the only belief is SCIENCE & NATURE. Prof. Ashley Montague said " Science has proof without any certainty. Creationist have certainty without any proof"; The great American philosopher Robert Ingersoll (1833 - 1899) said, " Reason, Observation and Experience - the Holy Trinity of Science.

I read something somewhere once that went something like this

"The reason an atheist can't find God is the same reason a thief can't find a policeman"

Any proof God gives, short of taking away a person's free will, will do noone any good. A person who belives will still believe. A person who doesn't, still won't. Those that are undecided might believe for a little while, but as time from the event passes, their belief will wane.

I think you're a liar.
You say he has "proven" himself. Yet no such proof exists. Only stories, pious fraud, and heresay. This is not proof. Not by any stretch of the imagination.
But you christians keep thinking that imaginary stories and fables count as proof. Tell you what, the next time you're in court, use a made-up story as "proof". See how fast you get slapped with Perjury and Contempt of Court.

1 - The first thing a bible thumper will tell you is: so and so book, chapter this, and verse that...out of their own ignorance and laziness to put their own opinion. (something like 'thou shalt not tempt me...or somethin' like that).

2 - A person of faith will tell you to look around and see life, and the miracles that abound.

I'm a roman catholic whose faith is teetering on the edge. I would like to be #2 (the person of faith), and yet, I value my own rationality at the same time. Part of me is tempted to ask the same question as you have, but at the same time (and more so), i say to myself,
"I really don't need proof whether or not God exists."

I like knowing that I live in a world where God exists.

Because either way, I will live life as I have.
Blame myself for my own faults.
And if something way bigger than me happens bad that I have no control over I'll blame God.
When things ease up, I'll ask forgiveness from the same God for losing faith.
I want to be able to look at my parents and siblings and my girlfriend and say thank God for you.

"I really don't need proof whether or not God exists."

I like knowing that I live in a world where God exists.

I'm always surprised when so many people personify god as a person or 'he.' So many people of the world believe that a god is a sirit that live within all. If there is a god, people would not be shuned because they failed to follow some practices or committed errors.

I think if you pray and ask Jesus into your heart first. Then ask him to show you that he is real. Here is an example, you have everyday issues all around you and your so busy you cant see whats really going on. Everyone is blind until there eyes are open. Some things you cannot see with your eyes but feel with your heart and know that they are real. Also when Jesus talks to you you'll know. Its like when you are driving a car and you just have a feeling to go a certain way but you don't know why. That is how it feels.Jesus has a purpose for us all and you just have to find your purpose and talent to feel complete.

I believe if you look closer into the way in which the world works you may acknowledge the existence of God. Also when a miracle occurs e.g. a man wakes up from a 20yr coma, a woman of 64yrs of age gives birth. Is also proof of God's existence. I think God exists in everything we take for granted a baby being born the growth of a flower the air we breathe. The proof is infront of us we confront God everyday its just up to us if take blind notice Him or acknowledge his existence and take nothing for granted.
