The teacher announced to her class that she was an Atheist and asked if any other's are too.

The class wanting to be like the well liked teacher all raised their hands not knowing what
an atheist was...except one little girl.

She didn't raise her hand...so the teacher wanting to embarrass and humiliate her in
front of the class asked her...WELL...then what
are YOU?

And the little girl said in her sweet little voice:
I'm a Christian!

This enraged the teacher...and she asked her: Are your parents Christians, and the little girl said...YES they are...then the teacher said what if your parents were idiots...would this make you and idiot too???

and the little girl said no...then I'd be an atheist!

I remember in school how the staff was liberal and atheist...I remember how they used humiliation and tried to make you feel so stupid if you believe in God and went to church. NEVER allow them to tell you they are in any way victims!!!

I like it! That sadly sounds like the liberal High School my kids had to attend. It made them stronger and God needed Christians there.

Did you hear the one about the christian teacher? OK. There was a public school, and in that school, the teachers were christian for the most part. In that school, you had to be christian too, or be beaten to near death. One day, the teacher was talking about how we had come to be. She said, god just made us, and that is it. One student had heard about evolution. He asked the teacher about it. She took him up in front of the class tried to embarrass him, and make an example by beating him with a stick till he had a concussion, and could not walk for all the injuries. She told him if he said that word again, he would burn in hell, and she would beat him about. After he got out of the hospital, he was still suspended for asking a question. So he went to a library, and got a book on evolution. He knew from that point on that religion was BS.Years later, he was a computer designer with a six figure pay check and a happy life. He went to a class reunion to see how everyone was doing. He was not sure if he should go because when he was in school, all the students were religious, and made fun of him. He went anyway hoping they matured. When there he talked to everyone, and they still hated him. The one that had the best job out of all the Christians, worked at burger king. And as it would turn out, being an evolutionist was the only thing that kept the christian teachers from molesting him as they had to all the other boys. After this, he went home and talked to his wife. He said he was sad to see those people in that condition. His wife said to him, "it could be worse. You could be christian". The moral of this story is that when it comes to superstition or the ability to think, be atheist. (So you know this is a true story, I am a relative of the main character.)

Um, no one in my school ever said anything about religion. It was essentially non-existent and that's how it should be in a public school. I didn't realize so many schools went so far toward promoting or condemning God. It really should just be something that is put to the side during school, as none of it has to do with the curriculum. There has to be a place where parents can send their kids to learn without the influence of religion, if they so choose (even if they are religious and simply want to know exactly what religious ideas their kids are being taught). Because of the separation of church and state, public school is ready made to meet this need.

I don't really think that happened. If this is true, here is one story about people being mean to Christians. Although, there are SO many stories where Christians were mean to other people, check out the burnings at the Salem Witch Trials!!!!!! Also, it does not matter what religion or beliefs a person may have, not all people are nice and there might be some crazy folks out there.

What an idiotic question. I agree that many teachers are liberal, but I have yet to have one be atheist. Atheists have been victims of oppression and hatred for centuries upon centuries. I have an IQ closer to genius than average, and my mother, and agnostic, has an IQ in the 150's. Being intelligent only increases your potential for atheism. You are quite ridiculous for believing in a personal god, and even more so for telling this obviously untrue story. Get a life, and stop trying to discredit the truth.

We atheists would be happy if no one were allowed to discuss their personal religious beliefs, or lack thereof, in a public school. People should keep their Atheism or Christianity or Jewishness or Paganism or Islam to themselves. If they want to wear a cross or yarmalke or headdress or whatever, fine. But there's no need to talk about it or attract any further attention. If religion is a relavent topic in a history classroom, then the religious angle of the historical time period should be discussed academically. If a literature class is discussing a book with religious themes, the discussion should be on the literary merits of the book, not anyone's religious beliefs. Religion doesn't even need to be brought up in math class, or gym class, or study hall, or science class, or foreign language.

You want your kids exposed to religion in school? Send them to a religious school.

If this story were true, it would be the story of one idiot, not proof that all atheists are cruel people intent on humiliating and embarrassing children. That's a malicious stereotype cherished by people who like to demonize those they consider enemies. My experience at school was somewhat similar. I had a teacher who was proudly and vocally Christian and picked on the one Jewish kid because his "people" had "crucified my Lord." He was an intolerant idiot, too, but he doesn't represent all Christians any more than he represents all teachers, all Americans, or all men.

Not just stale and forwarded from your e-mail, but mean-spirited, too.

I certainly didn't have that experience in my schools. I had a few liberal teachers in Orlando and Daytona, and one who was outspokenly atheist. The atheist, incidentally, was a genius--he was popular because he made biology come alive to us and was always there for us. But most of my teachers were quite conservative and Christian. I think it depends on region.

By the way, aren't Christian kids supposed to be taught how to respect authority?

Religion is a personal choice and this teacher should treat it as so. I don't think anyone should be forced to pray, nor should they be prevented from praying. I don't care what a teacher believes or what the children believe and no one should ask about a persons religious preferences in school.

The fact that the teacher was an atheist has nothing to do with the fact that she is a jerk. The story could easily be flipped around.

And they all lived happily ever after...What a nice little fairy tail. I'm sure those evil atheist teachers spent all that time and money going to college knowing they were "called" to teach, because they certainly aren't teaching for the money, so they could devote their days to humiliating christians. Grow up.

Blessings, W.
