Religion & Spirituality - 17 August 2006

A friend of mine is a buddhist, and I wish to know a bit more about how other people live that religion - given that there are different kinds of buddhisms.

sometimes when people try to help me I take it that they are Butting in. I a lot of times take waht people say too personal and too heart and being in ministry I do know that there are times when we all get offended and all feel overlooked and/or not appreicated. How can I admit this accept this and choose to be happy any way?

My father in law said in front of a group of people that he loved me but I have tried his patience more than once, I was very hurt being that his step son who is my husband and I try very hard and we care about people and dont expect anything from any body.

When people say mean and flippant things I want to be able to rise above it and speak the truth in love not stoop down to thier level?

Some people feel what we do is never enough and we should strectch and do more and my husbands ste4pdad is one of these people that feel this way.

I heard it has to be blessed by a Rabbi....But how is it possible....so you can't eat from your own garden?...Or does your Rabbi come and bless your garden..What about going to a restaurant??....I'm confused on how this all works!....Thanks!

Agnostic here, dont want to convert anyone,

So would we all agree, that science by itself is neither moral nor immorral, but it is the use of science by people that can lead to good or to bad.

Example: medicine, research scientists using science come up with cures. A good use of science. Credit goes to people.

Bad examples: late 1800s science teaches about evolution from species to species, - people try and use that science to justify eugenics. White anglo saxon prodestants, who believe black people evolved later than whites and were "genetic criminals" tried to pass laws that made forced sterilization legal. Supreme court even upheld a Virginia Law, SCOTUS has not reversed this law. In this case, its not christianity or science to blame, but the evil hearts of the bigoted people who ABUSED scientific learnings.

So this question - agree or disagree and why - Is it people that abuse religion and science, for evil purposes, and not the fault of religion or science

Here's my situation. I am a Serbian Orthodox Christian, who is married to an Italian Catholic. We got married 2 years ago in the Orthodox church, but my husband didnt convert, which I didnt mind, because he was raised Catholic. The problem is what do we do with our kids (none yet, but trying)? My religion means alot to me, but my child would have more opportunties to be active in the Catholic Church. we have discussed raising them in both, but the can only be baptized in one, and then their actions in the other church is restricted. For example they wont be able to fast and take Holy Communion in my church if they are baptized Catholic, and they wont be able to be confirmed in Catholic church if baptized in Orthodox. I am the one who attends church most and would be taking them. Is it right that I ask to have them baptized Orthodox since my husband was kind enough to get married in my church. Is that selfish?

Over the years I seen God answer my prayers hundreds if not thousands of times but here is just one story that happened to me and my family.

Our oldest daughter has problems. I won't say what because I know many will make fun of me and her and I know how cruel some can be. She is unable to care for herself. When she turned 24 she wanted her own apartment..we reluctantly allowed this. After about a Month myself and wife & son were at Church and God spoke to me and said GO TO HER NOW..go to the apartment NOW!!! We left church and drove like crazy to get there to find 2 men that got in and were about to take advantage of her..he cloths were off and they had her tied...I hit one and my wife called the police..they were both arrested. This happened in Wilmington, Ohio 5 years ago. My then 11 year old son still talks about the time God spoke to his Dad during Church..my daughter was unharmed and living not 12 feet from me right now! Thank you Jesus!

When my grandmother was on her death bed she was unable to talk and the doctors were amazed because she could sing. She sang this song day and night without sleep for three days before she passed away. My family and I have searched and search and no one has ever heard of it, we are starting to think maybe it was a mixture of songs , if you have any idea please let me know

i cant remember the rest she was singing very low and unclear but these words i heard clearly .

Im hoping to get friendly reasonable answers, but I've tried that before to no avail. The question is to Atheists. Christianity has survived for aproximately 1, 980 years, at the core of Christianity is the resurrection of Christ. Can you site any examples of the dead body of Jesus being produced? Their may be a scant few, which I'd like to see for myself if you can tell me. Was the body "proven" to be Jesus or another hoax? The thrust of my argument is that the Romans and the denying Jews wanted to crush this new belief and would have done anything to produce the dead lifeless body of Jesus. For anyone unfamiliar, the resurrection is that Jesus rose from the dead bodily, and the scriptures say only grave clothes were left. He later appeared very alive in a glorified body with marks on it from the crusifixion. If the apostles and other followers were "fooled" by the resurrection and a body was produced, WHY did they continue to suffer horribly and die for a cause they new wasnt true?

Why we have 2 keep on lying to protect our religion? How do prayers can vanish problems and cure desieses ? How can prayers make a blind people to see ?
