Luke 16:20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
Luke 16:21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
Luke 16:22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
Luke 16:23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
Ec 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
That shows were the soul goes
Just like a court of law when the jury finds you guilty and say life in prison you go to jail till the judge hands down the final judgement then you go back before the judge for the final judgement and he says life in prison but he does have the right to change what the jury did and so does God at the final judgement

Sorry about your friend, my friend also comitted suicide when he was 19 ( long time ago, he would be 33 now). The truth is that only God really knows in the end where our souls go. As a born again Christian I can be sure of my place in heaven, but people can be saved at the last minute of their lives. God said, 'it is my intention that none should perish' (or similar quote) so even if someone non-christian dies God can show Himself at the end and they can choose Jesus.

If there is a lot of bad karma to deal with accumulated over past lifetimes the soul may choose to try to get rid of it as much possible by opting for a next life on earth full of hardships and challenges - that may be why there are so many poor etc. and why there is an eye for an eye. If a soul is free of karma it leaves the earthly plane onto the next one. There are seven planes (I think). Hell may well be on earth as all souls that haven't erased all their karma will just keep coming back here global warming, catastrohes and all.

All souls go to Heaven to the Father that gave it.
We are going to be judged by God, so, where ever God is at, there is Heaven.
Ecclesiastes 12:7"Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it."
2Corinthians 5:8 "We are confident, [I say], and willing rather to be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord."

It's possible it doesn't "go" anywhere; that instead it simply is "freed" from our body and exists in an alternate "reality".
For example, saying that heaven is "up" and hell is "down" and "hot" applies physical characteristics to places that probably don't physically exist.
That's not to say they don't exist, just not in the physical sense.
In other words, I think our souls move from occupying our bodies into a state of extreme bliss (heaven) or torment (hell) based on the presence of God. If we've followed God's commands (or whatever our spiritual guideline dictates), hopefully He'll take most of us into this heavenly existence.

What do you believe?
I believe our souls return to a place that we were at before we were born. You can call it Home or the Other Side or an afterlife. Or Heaven of course.

Your soul is planted in your spirit body/ some they are one and the same thing. The spirit is eternal and within us in this life. When the physical body can no longer hold the spirit it vacates (seen like a vapour) and continues to exist in the spirit vibration or realm.

You are who you are because of your brain (you can call it your personality, character, soul, whatever) so obviously when you die so does your brain and therefore your "soul". There is no heaven and hell and don't let people brainwash you into thinking otherwise. It's all in their heads.
