A friend of mine is a buddhist, and I wish to know a bit more about how other people live that religion - given that there are different kinds of buddhisms.
.
Thx :-)

It brings me Serenity, calm, peace even in the most stressful moments. OK, it's a contradiction, what I mean is that I feel no stress (in situations when others do) almost always, due to the life vision Buddhism gives me. But I live my life as an ordinary guy, I go to work everyday, got stucked sometimes in traffic jams, meet people, call friends, eat three meals (not vegetarian), drink juices, buy things (though I not consider myself as consumerist or materialist) and son on.

Practically speaking...
I realize that my senses are not me. Also, no one is better or worse than me, so I don't have to show off or be jealous (although sometimes I do). Looking at life in a way where were all parts of the same picture.

That's just some quick thoughts that come to mind regarding your question. It's a lousy answer.

PS-When I think of myself, I don''t think about if I'm a Buddhist. Some people call themselves Buddhists, and are not. Some people ain't aware that they are Buddhist. When it comes right down to it, there is no Buddhism.

I tried it. I didn't know a thing about it so I got the Idiot's and Dummies books and educated myself about it.

I came to the conclusion that the nine-fold path is great, and is the only thing I really needed from it.

What I liked about that is it really boils down to one thing - doing the right thing. If you live by that rule, you can't even litter. The 10 commandments are much too specific, require you to believe in god, and just plain fall short.

I went from there to zen, which fit me like a glove.
