I go to receive the sacrament of Reconciliation at least every other week, and sometimes weekly. Many Catholics do not understand that you don't have to be dead in mortal sin to go to confession. The Sacrament gives us many graces to be able to be strengthened in our daily lives. I want and need all the graces available to me because it is not easy to live in this world with so much of its negativity and I seek all the spiritual help available to me to keep me in a state of grace and walking with Jesus Christ on a daily basis. I do an examination of conscience on a daily basis and that is part of my daily prayer life. I do not see many Catholics at my parish either who receive the sacrament, this is so sad because they are missing so much. Thank you for your question and may God abundantly bless you.
Just a note to those who responded above me: When Catholics do go to Confession, Yes, we are definitely confessing our sins directly to God and the priest is His representative, the priest is "in persona Christi" of Jesus Christ, the High Priest.

Confessing your sins to some guy is a little silly don't you think? I don't care who he is the church he's still human and no more or less a sinner than you are. Why don't you just ask forgivness from god from the privacy of your own home if you feel you must?

Never. I can't even recall the last time I went. Confession is very uncomfortable and I'm not that big a sinner.

4 months in the past... and that i particularly favor to flow back. It keeps slipping away one week at a time. I wish that they had mid-week confessions at my church.. some do, some do not. My city purely has Saturday confessions. i imagine about it in the course of the week, yet some how "forget" (or get lazy) via Saturday. i recognize you could call and "time table" one with a priest, in case you call ahead..yet i recognize they are sooo busy that i think it truly is egocentric except I genuinely have a huge sin on my head. yet i particularly don't have an effective excuse that i have not lengthy gone considering March. earlier March it were 10 years considering my very last confession, so i'm particularly attempting to spotlight my faith and shop energetic. ::EDIT::: i don't have a situation going to my close by church.. we've a lot turn-over that I hardly ever get to entice close a priest and then ::POOF:: they get re-assigned. even if,, I only occurred to flow to my confirm's church very last time I confessed and that i particularly loved what that Priest stated to me... he became soooo encouraging and he even confided in me somewhat about his struggles too.. so i think a connection to him and favor to flow back to admit back to him. yet, i might want to easily flow to my close by parish because i think I ought to offer them a attempt to by no ability continually flow outdoors the parrish. yet, I understand about the protecting a touch separation...there is not something incorrect with that.

True confession is not done to a Catholic Priest.
Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Jam 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
1Jo 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
I am a born again spirit filled Christian and I can tell you from 2 years at bible College that the Catholic Church is certainly not on the way to Heaven. It is only through Jesus that anyone can enter Heaven.
Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

um, never. but i've only been catholic for a little over a year. i've thought about it. however, the priest in my church doesn't sit in a confessional. you have to face him, on chairs. kind of intimidating.
