Religion & Spirituality - 4 August 2006

Religions claims that telling lies is a sin. But religions contradict one another and also sects within a religion contradict among them. So it cannot be true that all religions/sects are telling the truth. Eventhough, all religions has their holy book to PROVE their beliefs.

My question is how can you convince a person(or yourself), that your religion/sect is the only truth and is not a lie ?

She is a strong, beautiful, sweet christian women at the age of 19. This girl is amazing and deserves so much better. This guy is her first love. He is 17. They have been dating for 2-3 years. But the last year has been rough. He has turned into a complete jerk.

he makes fun of her in front of ppl
he cancels plans with her to go out with friends
he yells at her for no reason
and so on and so on

most recently, he told her he was done with her and that he never wanted to see her again. but the next day... he called and apologized. I have to comfort her all the time, but she won't listen to any of my, or her other friends, advice. i know in time he will just get worse, and probably physical.

Been visiting a friend in the hospital last few weeks (specialty hospital cancer type). doc and staff don't say a word about God or religion.
Alot that come in are non believers( miss marshal lady long term patiant sweet but bizzar will ask them when they arrive and say nothing else about it) But if you go into her room she has a calander she writes the new persons name twice once the date they get there and another on any diferent day. you ask that person on that day she wrote the name down a 2nd time they will tell you they found faith.
now miss marshal is a lil looney in her ways but all there.
My question is how does she know they day they find faith ahead of time? ..........it's kinda spooky but cool in a way

Think about it.Supposedly he knows everything because he is "God", right?And so he already knows what is going to happen and so he sits up on his cloud couch and watches us like we are a repeat reality show.

I know Catholics and Baha'is say formal prayers, and I believe Muslims and Jews do too, but I might be wrong on that point. I was both Catholic for most of my life and Protestant for two years. While Protestant, the church consisted of Hispanic ex-Catholics. I say "Hispanic" to paint a picture, because Catholicism is bone deep in the culture. A common thing to talk about was not to say formal prayer, that it was SO BAD. (No, I'm not being prejudiced, that's what really happened. Besides, I'm Hispanic.)

I went back to Catholicism, and of course practiced formal prayer again. Now as a Baha'i, formal prayer is still a part of my religion. I was so used to the idea, that when I converted, it was a no-brainer and no "culture shock."

Does anyone out there practice formal prayer, and if so, what prayers do you say?

If you are opposed to formal prayer, why so? I want to point out that nowhere in the Bible does it say that formal prayer is forbidden, so if you are opposed, why so?

I mean, come on. The US are in their back pocket. They set up the state of Israel after WWII in the first place. The world just needed a place for the homeless jews after the war & holocaust - so why take away someone else's country in a place where they are clearly not accepted? They should have made aarrangements for somewhere in USA to take them. I dunno, how bout somwhere in Nevada - call it Little Israel or something....

Have you ever been burned before? The pain during, then after the experience? Imagine being burned for 5 seconds straight. While experiencing excruciating pain, time seems to slow down. 5 seconds is a long time to hold your hand in a fire. Try 10. Try a minute. If 5 seconds was a long time, how long would a whole minute feel? This, my friends, is torture. Torture makes people want to die rather than endure it any longer. It's a device used to get information or punish. Punishment, that's what Hell is all about, right? Can you possibly fathom how bad it would be to suffer incredible pain constantly, for eternity? Even one day would be enough to permanently scar someone for life. Nobody could possibly deserve such a punishment. No matter what they do. The infinite amount of time is going to cancel out their "bad deeds" eventually. But then they're punished more. Tortured, over, and over again. Past what they may deserve. Why is it so easy to believe in Hell?

The Ten Commandments are applicable even now. But most of the Christians do not follow those commandments. I don't think none other 'so called' religion has got anything like that?

What is Spirituality to you?
If I told you that I knew what it was, would you believe me? I can sell you some for 50$ a pop.

In my New Testament class in college, a man said his friend nearly died and saw Hell. HE saw red and fire, demons, and he was, of course, terrified. Luckily he came back and got his life straightened out. Now, he's a great Christain and a great person.
My fiancé nearly died in a plane crash (before I met him) and he says that he saw bright lights but with redish clouds. He said he got a happy, golden feeling. He told his family that he thinks he saw Heaven but no one believed him (probably 'cuz after the accident he kept talking to Superman and other imaganary ppl).

What do u think?

Do you really feel that he has done something for you? If so, why do you feel like you have been singled out for his special attention while so many people in the world are starving to death? What makes you more important than the 12 year old girl who gets raped? Why did God choose to help you instead of her?

If your god is a loving forgiving god, will he forgive a person for not believing in him?

There are many christians living in Germany. Do you think god has forgiven the men who ran the concentration camps in world war 2?

Do you believe in God because the bible tells you to? Who wrote the bible? Man inspired by god? Who said god inspired him? God?

I would like to be convinced. Really I would. The idea that there is something greater out there is wonderful. So tell me why you believe in something that does not believe in you. If he did, you would not need to be saved, right? Convince me please. I'm open to this, I want to believe.

I asked a questiona little while back about ignoring science, and I was informed that there is an entire body of scientific evidence that proved there is a God, or a creator... I am not an Athiest, but I an no religious extremest either... I am curious as to what this "new evidence" and scientific body of proof is... (The bible is not scientific proof)
