Religions claims that telling lies is a sin. But religions contradict one another and also sects within a religion contradict among them. So it cannot be true that all religions/sects are telling the truth. Eventhough, all religions has their holy book to PROVE their beliefs.

My question is how can you convince a person(or yourself), that your religion/sect is the only truth and is not a lie ?

Actually I am Wiccan and we don't believe in sins, we do belief that we must not hurt another or ourselves. We do not have a "holy book" but learn from others and from Nature itself and write our own personal "holy book" (called a Book of Shadows). We believe that there isn't one religion that is right for everyone. And we do not believe that our sect is the only truth, but I for one believe that Wicca is the only truth for me. Truth is subjective after all isn't it.

If you're LDS it's very simple:

Read the Book of Mormon.
Is it true or did some kid write it? (impossible by the way).
You have to pray to know if it's right.

If you know the Book of Mormon is true and is the word of God alongside the Bible then you'll know the Joseph Smith was a true Prophet of God who translated the Book of Mormon through the Power of God. It would be contradictory for GOD to give his Power to more than one religion since they all teach different things. He loves us too much to do that and he's PERFECT and will not do something IMPERFECT.

Once you know these things, then you'll know that the church he restored through Jesus Christ himself is the only true church in this world, and that it was the only true church in the Bible and the only true church Christ established on earth when he was here in his time and the only true church that opostated cuz all the Apostles were killed and with them went the truth and the Priesthood, which is the Power of God to act in his name.

If you know these things, then you'll know that every teaching and every principal and every commandment in the LDS church is right and true because it came directly from God.

That's how.

If you need more info on how to do this, I have it.

I attest to what I mentioned above to be true and correct. Take it or leave it:)

Someone can use terms such as "fact" or "truth" till the cows come home when talking about their faith or their sect of faith, however what they are talking about is "selective facts" and "subjective truth."

One can be swayed to ones position in presenting both, but that does not preclude that it's objectively true. It's just that that particular faith or sect appeals to their senses, so for them it is true.

One man's religion is still and will always be another man's nonsense.

There is no need to convince people of the truth. The truth is the truth whether people believe it or not. All we can do is show the truth as we have found it and pray that people will realize it and desire it. May you be blessed.

Be a presbyterian christian. It's the only way to be ;) You, or the other person, has to figure out which religion tells the truth, and then have faith in it

all the tenets of religion are based on dogmatism and are not rational except Buddhism.why do you confine this question only to religions? all the political ideologies like Marxism, Gandhi's, and Hegel, Plato, Aristotle etc preach noble things but the followers fail to translate their preachings into practice. it is quite natural not become cent percent perfect.

I'm an atheist and there is no reasonable doubt my "religion" is factually accurate. Since my "religion" is true, it means all those who claim to follow a "God" or "Gods" are wrong.
