It is believed that Adam was a giant and the Earth had a more pressured atmosphere. This would mean that dinosaurs were probably just lizards to the pre-flood people. From your question i realize i've got one of my own. Isn't is odd that Adam wasn't the one who lived the longest? The midatlantic ridge is said to be where a lot of water came from to flood the Earth/

The genealogy is concerned with the ruling clans in the tribes. It is like speaking of the House of Windsor, Tudor, or Lancaster in English history. It just seems very strange because of the different conventions of naming the ruling lines of the nobles. They do seem to get confused quite a bit in the translations about if they are referring to the original person or to the descendants. Sometimes they will refer to a person after they tell you that person was dead a long time before.
note also that a lot of these time lines are running at the same time and are reflecting the strength of the royal houses in the structure.

It was because at that time, before the flood, the earth was surrounded by a protective shield. It shielded earth from UV rays and other damage. Some people have said it might have been like ice or something that melted, and caused the flood??? But I don't know about that. After the flood, the vegetation was different and people before then had been vegetarians,....then God taught them how to eat meat. How to clean it properly, etc...
The protective layer aided in them living so long. I think it was for population purposes also.

From my understanding it was that even though it had been several generations from Adam to the third flood....people at that time still had the life span passed down from Adam and Eve...although Adam and Eve had sinned and were cast out....they still had a tremendous life span given to them by God....and it was past down through the generations....and after the third flood....which was the flood of Noah.....the Life spans started getting shorter....ive read this in my reference Bible....its like as the generations went by....they became less and less pure...

I dont think anyone was going to say they mistranslated the months LOL
Back then there was a whole lot less disease and holes in the ozone layer and all that to kill people. The Earth was fresh, the air was clean, the water was clean etc. People got sick but they had cures for most things right in their gardens.

Nothing was mistranslated. If you noticed when sin first happened people were still living a long time as time went on people did not live as long life span got shorter and shorter and if you read more of the bible God extended some of their lives because he had use for them for his purposes.

If you get an answer, let me know. According to genesis, Adam was supposed to die on the day he ate the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge, and got thrown out of paradise before he could eat from the Tree of Life...
