There are many symbols used by various Pagan groups that include a star. A pentagram is a specific one which consists of a five pointed star in a circle. It's meaning is very multilayered.

A pagan star is a pentagram, the five points represent the five elements; bottom left is Earth, bottom right is Fire, upper left is Air, upper right is Water, and the very top point is Spirit. Spirit is always on top because it shows that Spiritual above Material. And the circle around it shows that this is all encompassing. And as you can see there is nothing Satanic or even evil about it.

It is the same thing. Pagan's call it, "The Pentacle"
A common symbol amongst Pagans and Wiccans alike, though more often seen with a circle enclosing the star. The number 5 represents the Earth, and the points stand for the 4 elements and our spirit (we are all part of the Earth, after all). The pentacle is often used as an identifying piece of jewelry for Pagans, much like the way Christians wear a crucifix.

Yes, there is. But, the pentagram has a genuine mathamatical value. Same for music.
If you took apart ALL of the different Size segments and aligned them by size, Then measured them to harp strings, you would get the B flat Concert scale.
This value was discovered in the time of the Greeks. I could go on forever about the matamatical and helpful things hidden amongst the pentagram. It would have to be the most complex of all of the shapes.

Many times a neo-pagan will use the pentagram (five-pointed star) and enclose it within a circle.

interestingly enough, i think both are similar in appearance. however, i believe the pegan star is a rune to protect someone within it, while a pentagram is a rune to summon a being from hell.
