If you have a strongly held belief, should that not govern every day of your life?
If you do not follow every observation of your religion, Is there any point observing it at all?

I asked the question in Yahoo Answers that I am a old man and Vedic philosopher. Who so ever wants to make me a friend/teacher can join me to understand the Vedic philosophy. Six persons responded and we are starting. I wanted to publish this once more, so that some more persons would get a chance.

According to the Buddha, "All things appear and disappear because of the concurrence of causes and conditions. Nothing ever exists entirely alone; everything is in relation to everything else."

This doctrine of dependent origination was a component of the Buddha's enlightenment. It's an oversimplification, but it has been formulated as "With condition A, B will occur. Without condition A, B will not occur."

This sounds like an early opening to the study of conditions that lead to change, and by extrapolation, evolutionary processes.

What role could Buddhism play in helping those who seek a spiritual life but feel pushed away by those who insist on creationist interpretations of the Bible? Is there rationality in Buddhism that Christianity lacks?

I read the bible and saw that there's many stories of incest in there, like Lot and his 2 daughters (Genesis 19:32-35), Judah and Tamar, his daughter in law (GENESIS 38: 15-18), Reuben and his step-mother (GENESIS 35:22), brother and sister (2 Samuel 13:5-14 ), Absalom with his mother (2 SAMUELS 16:22 ) and many others.

My question is these stories are mentioned in the bible with detail. Even Prophets commited incest according to the bible. So why should incest not be allowed according to the bible? What is the moral of these stories in the bible? Like what is the moral of Judah having sex with Tamar (his daughter in law) for the price of a young goat, and then Tamar getting pregnant with twins (Phares and Zarah) who became destined to become the great grand father of Jesus (Matthew 1:3)? Bastards as Jesus's great grandfather?

Can true Christians plz explain.

How many poor folks do you know who live better than you? I see so many people on the side of the road with signs saying will work for food. I have handed them applications to different jobs like, McDonalds, Wendys, etc.. Are they really wanting a job or just a hand out? I think America is lazy and wants hand outs. There is many I know who are driving better cars than we do, and eat steaks alot cause they have food stamps. I dont know one pastor in my community who drives a Cadaliac. I think the person who asked that must watch to much tv.

If ALL the worlds religions are right and the rest of them are wrong, is it time to ban the external voicing of any religion? If you went to church or sat on a rug for your own benefit then thats fine. But to be allowed to argue about the unprovable in public?
If you need religion, why cant you just keep it to yourself?

Examples:
What does it mean if someone says they
-Believe in God?
-Believe in UFO's?
-Believe in themselves?
-Believe in evolution?
-Believe in Science?
-Believe in kindness?

And when someone says that everyone 'believes in' something, in which sense do they mean? To believe something exists or to believe that something is good? Or to believe that you should devote your life to something?

How is it distinguished from 'believing that'--as in believing that the earth is spherical?

People say they 'believe in' things all the time and never really explain what they mean. So what do you think?
