As far as I'm aware, the gospels were all written after the lifetime of Christ (and some significantly after). None of the historians of the day such as Pliny the Elder, mention Jesus in their writings and there are no Roman records of the trial of Jesus.

Can anyone explain this?

This stems off the previous question asked about where the parents are. What is your position on spanking a child? Not advocating child abuse in any way. A child should never be disciplined physically to an extent that it causes physical damage to the child. According to the Bible, though, the appropriate and restrained physical discipline of children is a good thing, and contribute to the well-being and correct upbringing of the child. God's discipline is loving, as should it be between parent and child. Spanking should never be used to cause lasting physical harm or pain, but a quick swat (on the bottom where there is the most padding) to teach the child that what he did was wrong is acceptable. Never should it be used to vent our anger and frustrations, or be uncontrolled. What are your thoughts on this subject?

One day you will wake-up and realize just what a horror story the Bible really is-I read in Revelations that John saw all kind of creatures around the table of God-and this god of yours has what can only be described as monsters-I mean God the creator of all is surrounded by Horses with lions heads and lambs with fire in its eyes and fire breathing angels-Sounds like a Monster to me a nd you want me to get down on my knees before this thing and pray? So I don't Burn in Hell-from an entity that created hell-and Jesus will be sitting on this things right side surrounded by all these creatures with lotsa heads and eyes and wings-Man I can't wait to see the movie even if it is from the Front Row-and I hope he don't get too mad when I throw a tomato at the Director for such a bad show-and demand my soul back it that is the price of admission-I WANT A REFUND!

Consider that the earth hosts numerous Christian and pseudo-Christian denominations, most of which are all trying to convert each other to their own versions of Christianity, and then we have Muslims who are threatening to kill all of us who won't convert to Islam. Also, there are thousands of other religions that range from the bizarre to the sublime. How could anyone explain any of this mess to our space alien?

I always have the feeling people interpret the Bible in another way than i do.

The story of Sodom for example:

Sodom was destroyed because its people didn't take God seriously about caring for the poor, the hungry, the homeless, or the outcast.

Ezekiel 16:48-49: "This is the sin of Sodom; she and her suburbs had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease, but did not help or encourage the poor and needy. They were arrogant and this was abominable in God's eyes."

In those days it was common for soldiers, thieves, and bullies to rape a fallen enemy. This act of raping an enemy is about power and revenge, not about homosexuality.

The sexual act that occurs in the story of Sodom is a gang rape -- and homosexuals oppose gang rape as much as anyone.

Please don't condemn homosexuality with the other 5 bible-verses in your answers. I know them, i don't agree with them either. In this question i'm purely interested in why Christians assume Sodom was destroyed caused by gays.

I'm not even talking about the idea that created this place. I can imagine that we return to separate consciousness clusters and absorb each other's experience. Then I can imagine that process would include gathering enough like clusters to be able to have the strength to break through the frequencies only seen by us combining. Then when we add our experience to the original circle and deposit it and then feel the comfort of contributing. It looks like a pyramid if you picture it in your mind. Some people don't want to go back home though. It would mean a whole new way of existing and I can't comprehend that? Anyone else wonder about this. If that concept is a pyramid, then what is the essence of what is outside that pyramid. Seems like only the curious would try to know. ;) Just a thought that popped in my head. I am religious and don't study any mystic stuff, just an idea I had. I'm not on any drugs, just daydreaming.

Serious respectful question, not attacking Jesus or Christians. A friend of mine emailed me last week telling me he was having suicidal thoughts; he was committed to a hospital where he met with a counselor who through their discussion he now thinks the church he is a member of is bad for him.

One of the things the church did was tell him to not have a crucifix. Is this the will of God, or is this cult behavior.

Since there is no empirical evidence of God, we don't know how tall he is or what he has on his walls in heaven, how do we know God is against crucifixes?

I mean this respectfully and not as an attack on Christians or Jesus. I think one can have an authentic life and belief in Jesus.

I am asking a serious respectful question and don't want the usual crap of jim darwin needs jesus or he goes to hell; or god is imaginary.
Thanks.

The theory of evolution is taken as fact and is based on carbon dating that is inaccurate. If creation is wrong then how do you explain your existance in a shorter time frame???
God created the earth as a working model with age.
God created Adam as a adult with age, at creation 0 years but he looked like he had existed a few years.
God created the animals as adults
How can you date something that wasn't born, but was created??
If the earth really has only 7,000 years how do you explain man without creation??

I'm getting a little perturbed with people throwing out the "don't judge me" or "i don't judge" lines. isnt the fact of the matter that we all judge-whether we judge something/someone to be good or bad, whether verbal or not-something passes through our minds about people/things/ideas. Why is judging so wrong anyways? And also, if you tell someone something positive about what they do-they never come back with the snide "dont judge me" remark, however try to tell them something negative and you'll probably hear it 9 times out of 10. I dont know...

First: sorry about my rants earlier, I was feeling a little defensive do to anothers post. Now , have you noticed that children seem to be free to raise themselves these days? I mean dressing like bums and streetwalkers, mouths that would make sailors blush, and last night two young teens walked into my Nursing Home at 2:30 am looking to buy a soda. Where are America's parents?
