I always have the feeling people interpret the Bible in another way than i do.

The story of Sodom for example:

Sodom was destroyed because its people didn't take God seriously about caring for the poor, the hungry, the homeless, or the outcast.

Ezekiel 16:48-49: "This is the sin of Sodom; she and her suburbs had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease, but did not help or encourage the poor and needy. They were arrogant and this was abominable in God's eyes."

In those days it was common for soldiers, thieves, and bullies to rape a fallen enemy. This act of raping an enemy is about power and revenge, not about homosexuality.

The sexual act that occurs in the story of Sodom is a gang rape -- and homosexuals oppose gang rape as much as anyone.

Please don't condemn homosexuality with the other 5 bible-verses in your answers. I know them, i don't agree with them either. In this question i'm purely interested in why Christians assume Sodom was destroyed caused by gays.

(Note: i seem to have to say this asking such questions, i'm not gay, i'm not a Christian, i'm just curious on why the bible is used to condemn homosexuality)

It confuses the simple people. Sodom=sodomy=homosexual behavior=bad bad bad= go to hell. Tada! See even an atheist knows how it works.

Sodom? ok. . . about Homo?. . . ever read Genesis?

What are Adam and Eve created for? What is God's idea of marriage?

1st, pro-create. Can Homo do that? No. So the rich Homo should take the innocent from the normal straight parents home to raise as their own, and inculcate them the wrong teaching?

Woman was created out of man, and 'for this reasons, they shall leave their parents and be united as one flesh'? Two same sex? United? err . r . r . r . r... something not quite right isn't it?

God don't create another man out from the first man, to have pleasure with each other, but rather women, so to be united as one flesh.

So, in the very first creation, gay was already not intended, and marriage is for 2 sex. What is homo to talk about in the bible, but simply disobedient from the word of God!

So, who is condeming the Homo? But the Bible. In Paul's letter, we can safely said that.

However, if one which to argue, and everything can be debate. Fine. But strange enough, what is the point? If one choose to be a gay, why take up the Bible? If one choose the Bible, why dig on the fine grey area, and debate the other inprobable issue?

Pal, be obedient, less you miss the kingdom of God.

At the end, it is not the man that will Judge you. But God. If unsure, my advice is to be with the Bible.

Because God made a man and a woman for a reason; He made (as my friend says) Adam & Eve, not Adam & Steve. ;) Even today raping is bad. You can get in a lot of trouble if you get told on. Because of all the homo's etc. God destroyed the city. In the Bible it says that abraham begged God to save the city (he had a nephew & his family living there in that city) if there were 10 good people, & there weren't, so God destroyed the city.

If you read Genesis 19 1-5. This speaks of two angels coming to Lot and Lot taking then into his home. Then the meen of the town came and demanded them so they could have sex with them. Men having sex with men= homosexuals. There were a number of reasons that God destroyed Sodom and Gomorah homsexuality was among them.

I just find it amazing how people always even try to find acceptable loop-holes in the law so they can break it. God's law is more serious than man's law because at the end of one's life - he has to answer for what he or she has done over his life - and just as in the court of man - if ignorance of the law is no excuse - how much more God's laws?

People cite ignoranc.., "I didn't know it was against the law to speed!" -or- "I didn't know it was illegal to do drugs" knowing full well they heard it ALL their lives and attempt to skirt around the issue, looking for loop holes.

It doesn't matter how people try to reinterpret the Law. The Judge knows the law.

This is as straight forward as I can be without sounding like I am slamming you. And I really am not. I'm just telling you the situation.

did you know that in some muslim countries a girl cannot get married if she is not a virgin
did you know that even if she is a virgin but doesn't bleed after first intercourse the hubby's family will raise a ruckus
some girls go to get a doctors certificate as proof that she is a virgin
point?
this practice is not new it dates all the way back to sodom and probably earlier
but so do horny teenagers
so girls used to save their virginity for marriage but do everything else, after all everything else is not sex , just ask Perez Clinton
sodom was probably known for this issue
as lot tells the crowding townsfolk not to hurt his guests as they have taken shelter in his home (also still a popular rule in the middle east) but they could have his daughters whom are "unknown" to men hummmm....
"unknown" i wonder what that means LOL

At Sodom when the angels were at Lot's house, the men of the city wanted them to have sex with them. The angels were represented as men. Later in the Law, homosexuality (man lying with man) was prohibited.

i think you'll be interested to know that there are only 2 places in the Bible opposed to homosexuality. not 5 as you stated.
Leviticus 18:22 and Romans 1:26-27
everything else is a mistranslation

to answer your question, most of the time religious people don't think about their religion, they just do as they are toLd

You have read it well.

I agree with you on your depiction of what it says.

There are connotations of homosexuality when, the people said send the visitors ( angels ) that we may know them.
Lot would not let the strangers sleep outside. Why?
He offered his daughters to the people. Why?
He knew what they wanted.

God condemns homosexuality. It's an abomination and leads to the pathway to destruction.
