to, thebigm, i dont accept that answer. saudi, iran and a host of other muslim nations have never been under the soviets. the crescent symbol predates the soviet union

you said you dont know but your guess is correct.
This crescent moon logo came late after Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him)
this came from the architects from Turks who constructed the Masjids and this also is because we follow the lunar calendar
All our religious events like fasting, pilgrimage depend on seeing the first moon sight of the month.
It is just a logo and it doesnot have any religious meaning to it.

No it had to do with Soviet influence over the various Islamic Nations in the ME. When the US made poor policy decisions and decided not to back any of the Islamic nations the Soviets were opportunistic and siezed the chance for influence. That influence still lingers despite the fall of the Soviet Union. PEACE!

Whoever said that the crescent moon was the official symbol of Islam? The shahadatain, or the statement of belief (La ilaha illallah) is the statement (symbol, sign) of Islam.

Because "allah" is the moon god. I am serious about this. Mohammed chucked out a bunch of idols in his desire to just have one. Allah was the only one left. And allah is the moon god. Hence the moon.

no its not true i am a muslim but GOD is not moon its ALLAH and he is not a MOON GOD yeh we have symbol of moons and stares and so do USA has stars its nothing like that plz researh on ISLAM plz dont put wrong things here
