Consider that the earth hosts numerous Christian and pseudo-Christian denominations, most of which are all trying to convert each other to their own versions of Christianity, and then we have Muslims who are threatening to kill all of us who won't convert to Islam. Also, there are thousands of other religions that range from the bizarre to the sublime. How could anyone explain any of this mess to our space alien?

Hello buzzlightminute.. :)

For All have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God..

God loved us all so much that He gave His only begotten Son Jesus (who himself was without sin).. to die on the cross and shed His blood for the attoinment of our sins..

We will become new creatures in Christ..for the old things are gone in our lives..the Holy Spirit will bestow down upon us, God's peace, unspeakable joy, Love, kindness, goodness, humility, meekness..We become brothers and sisters in Christ..for there is not any race, nor any barrier that can seperate us from the Love of the Lord.. :)

Here are some scriptures from God's Holy Word I would like to share with you.. :)

John 1

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 The same was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

===============================================

John 10

13 The hireling fleeth, because he is a hireling, and careth not for the sheep.

14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.

15 As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.

16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

===============================================

Hebrews 11

3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, Gen. 1.1 so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

===============================================

John 15

19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own; but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

===============================================

I am here for you anytime you need me.. :)

With Love..In Christ.. :)

First, how do you explain your own religion to someone? Basically, that's how we'd tell an alien. We'd mention how vast our religious philosophies are and introduce them to the main books and points they may be interested in. We could boil it down very simply to "One or more Higher Beings created the Earth and Mankind and all sorts of Animals. The message is generally one of Tolerance and Love; but depending on the religion, one may be a 'chosen' person or not and may or may not be able to go to 'heaven' which is nice place to go when you die. There are lots of rules, but they vary from sect to sect. And usually, the rules are what everyone's arguing about."

Or maybe we could ask to hear about their religions...... they may have some similarities we can build on.

It wouldn't be much different than missionaries going into completely un-modernized portions of the world, say in Africa or South America, and evangelizing. The concept would be just as foreign.

Besides, all that complexity you mentioned wouldn't really matter, because the individual explaining it to the alien would almost definitely tell only their beliefs, rather than attempt to explain all of the religions in the world.

Um, mmmkay I know a few Muslims and none of them have ever threatened to kill me if I don't convert. In fact, I go to the mosque once in a blue moon and get some funny looks like, "What is that hippie doing back here?!" But they love me and vice versa.

Anyway, I dunno how we'd explain it. I suppose if aliens were advanced enough to come all the way out here, they'd have already read up on our various cultures beforehand. You'd hope anyway.

The same way you would explain to someone here and today, the Greek gods and the Roman gods. Once emotional content and conditioning are removed, people accept things fairly straight forward.
Or consider the inquisition in Europe or the witch trials in Salem, which we look upon with incredulity today, which were looked upon with deadly seriousness then!
Think of Bonnie and Clyde, only 76 years ago, we can watch their exploits now and even cheer them on. But have them do that today, and the mindset changes completely.

If a space alien were to turn on their electromagnetic energy receivers, tune in their universal translators and listen in to American politics and religious radio, they would either leave the planet and post a "Not Worth The Trip" sign nearby, or they would take pity on us and vaporize us with their proton pulse ray.

In MIR (Russia) it was just gossip they meet aliens on the first time the space ship was smashed but on the second time mir started waves to speak with them., They sent a waves for that space men send a reply waves they accepted that and being friends of them., For them heaven is nearer to them., They are good then us. We are (Earth) people are having more sins them., They didn't wants the preach., We want it because it is necessity.

Why do you think that the aliens would be interested in the first place? Maybe they don't come in peace. Maybe they have been observing us for the last five thousand years and they know all about it.

I really really like your question :-)

I can find so much enlightements about my own personal beliefs thx to this "religion & spirituality"-section...

My answer: if I had to meet an Extraterrestrial who asks me to explain religious beliefs on Earth, I would reply: "Dear Sir: I am not able to answer this to you, because I am a non-theistic human. But I can try to find a theologist for you, someone who studies all religions on our planet."

You know what, dear Asker?

I am not involved in any religion from Earth NOR FROM ANYWHERE ELSE lol.

I mean: even though an Extraterrestrial comes and tells me about his/her/its religious non-earthian beliefs, I wouldn't adopt them either.

I think that if an alien wasn't exposed to the same sin we are exposed to, they would be forbidden to come near our planet. However, any alien who is exploring and has no sin would be perfect which means that they use 100% of their brain. They would have all the answers.
