"To assert that the earth revolves around the sun is as erroneous as to claim that Jesus was not born of a virgin."
[Cardinal Bellarmine, 1615, during the trial of Galileo]

As we now know he was wrong about the Earth / Sun, we can question the latter?
"Hence today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord.."
[Hitler (Mein Kampf, Chapter 2)

"It is a just retribution for improper sexual misconduct"
[Mother Teresa, on AIDS]

How come religious People protest Abortion so much but you never see them try to stop other crazy religious people from refusing thier children medical treatment because of thier beliefs. I work at a hospital and we see parents tell the doctors not to do anything to a 6 year old who was in a car accident and is dying and these people say that its in Gods hands now....So isn't that just as messed up as Abortion is? I mean your killing a child who can't choose for himself...because technically parents have the say till ur 18.

Are you your brain, your body, your assets, your circumstances, your thoughts, or something else? Think hard, if you lost your house, your arms or legs, your beliefs. Who or what is left?

I have not been able to read it in totality myself. But I have to confess when I sit quietly and try to make sense of what I read - it seems to be written by a person who was under the infuence of a powerful drug. If this literature was NOT a bible book - I would say the author was deranged. What's your opinion?

There seem to be a lot of people answering in the Religion & Spirituality Category that have a very negative attitude towards the questions. If you feel so strongly that there is no God, that Christianity and other religions are nonsense, why waste your time answering the questions?

The following exchange took place at the Chicago airport between Robert I. Sherman of American Atheist Press and George H. W. Bush, on August 27 1987.
RS:
"What will you do to win the votes of Americans who are atheists?"
GB:
"I guess I'm pretty weak in the atheist community. Faith in God is important to me."
RS:
"Surely you recognize the equal citizenship and patriotism of Americans who are atheists?"
GB:
"No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God."
RS:
"Do you support as a sound constitutional principle the separation of state and church?"
GB:
"Yes, I support the separation of church and state. I'm just not very high on atheists."

An argument that only those who believe they are protected by God are true patriots and are brave enough to fight for their country. Simply not true. Sure atheists are smart enough to realize their mortality, but will and do defend their country and their beliefs.
Isn't it more heroic to fight KNOWING that you won't go to heaven?

what are they doing here slashing out with believers? Some Atheists in this site are accusing Christians of pushing their irrational agenda? Meant no offense. Truth is I love to hear Atheists' side on religious and spiritual issues. Just asking.

My family were devote JW's and I had no choice but to conform...my friends, family and associates all were JW's and I was only a child. When I got old enough I got pushed out on purpose because I wanted my life back. Now I have nightmares and no one except my boyfriend in my life. From that religion, I developed several mental disorders that affect my life. I have a wonderful job, a great relationship and just finishing up college by myself but the memory still haunts me. I don't punish people for there beliefs...why did they punish me for mine? Why did I get punished for not being one of them?

And if faith is supposedly the strongest force for a belief why disassociate yourself from the rest of the world in order not to be influenced? I think if you really believe in something, nothing can discourage you!

so many people claim things they dont know, all their sources are anti-muslim websites and people, and they believe that as if it's the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.. then when u try to tell them about the truth they dont listen.. do they think they're being smart or something cuz so far as i know, for anything to be eligible u have to have proven sources for it
and even when they try to quote Quran or Muhammad (PBUH) they get misinterpretations, or wrong verses, or even parts of verses that give a completely different meaning without the rest of it
is this part of the western so called "culture" or is it just stupid people
i dont mean offence to anyone but that's just weird!!!

What do you think?
