Because the idea that god is a man is only a means of justifying a patriarchy. The Creator is spiritual, and is neither male nor female, but some refer to the Creator as she I think to try to offset all the times the Creator is called he.
Also, a lot of pagan religions believed that we all came from a goddess, so it might come from that. For instance the Celts believed that all humans came from the Great Mother, Danu - the Danube river is named after her.

Since men were considered superior in those days, it was easier to refer to God as a he. In reality though, it makes no difference since God is male, female, and everything in between. The term 'he' is just used for ease of reference.

God is beyond gender. But because the Bible was written by men, in the language of men, and because men envisioned God as a great king, and for the sake of consistency, they referred to God as a he.

When Christianity came to Europe, the people there were pagans, and all their deities were female ... since women create life, that is who they worshipped.
Because Men wanted to control women, everything to do with religion became male-centered and women became the root of all evil (you know, Eve MADE Adam eat that apple).
Today, more and more people call God a "She" because God is neither Man nor Woman, but women create life ... God created life, so God must be a Woman.
Just telling you what I know, not what I believe.

Believing in God is a personal matter....some people believe God is female. The Bible is like the U.S. Constitution...politically incorrect....not taking into account that women are equals

The word God is a title, not a particular name. Some people worship gods that are females (goddesses). Although the Christian god is male, not ALL gods are male---and not everyone worships the Christian god. There are other religions besides Christianity.

Because thraditionally Christianity has repressed women, and one way to balance the scaled is to refer to god as she. If there is a god, it probably is a she, as only women have the ability to create and sustain life.

Some women just want to feel that God is on their side, and if God were a man then they think He would not help them.
But God is neither a man or a women, He is spirit.

Depends on your beliefs. I believe that there is a male and female God that for to be the One. I don't see how God could be just one or the other.

No God is He. It is that simple there are guidelines that women are to follow in the church and alot of those guidelines have been thrown by the wayside to help out the womens movement. I do not personally agree with that I prefer to follow the rules of God.
