I mean, how can you tell what was specific instructions for a specific church in the new testament, or what in the Old Testament no longer applies to us?

Can anything in the Bible really be applied to the modern world? If you say yes say why and give examples.

thats what our founding fathers wanted. but for some reason, christian politicians in america are trying to re-unite the two. isnt this a violation of the constitution? arent we allowed to practice out own beliefs? if anything we should be pressing to seperate church and state even more! (like taking the "in god we trust" off our currency and removing "one nation under god" from the pledge of alegiance.

the bible only shows the lineage of Jesus through Joseph to David. the bible never says that Mary is a descendant of David therefore Joseph must be the biological father of Jesus for the prophecy to be fulfilled.

And how do you have the answer for this one?

This question is for any religion - How do you know yours is correct? You're only the religion you are is because you were told to believe so by someone else. You were brought up to believe in in what others told you to believe in. The majority of people HAVEN'T had contact with their God(s), and if they believe so, then their minds have been influenced from others, telling them they have experienced their "god" in their life. 2000 years from now, there will be new religions, based off earlier religions. Will Christianity be considered the "mythologic" religion as the Greek/Roman gods and goddesses are now considered? No one will truely know what is true and what is false, they only have faith.

what say you to the pestering thought that "people are giving themselves too much credit, there is no god, there is no soul, we are just things trying to apply some meaning to our lives." things along those lines.

I prefer to hear Christian responses to this question, but it's open for all. Thanks!

I have been reading some other questions and I can't help but get a little upset. It seems many 'christian' people are fiercely against homosexuals. I respect that everyone has a right to their own opinion, but how can people that claim to live a life for God have so much animosity in their hearts? I see where people blatantly admit that gays should burn in hell. Are these the feelings God would want us to have towards other human beings? Gay marriage is illegal, and I know I'm opening a can of worms here, but if it is illegal because of moral and ethical reason and the bible says it is wrong, then why isn't divorce illegal? Don't you think divorce is affecting our country just as much, if not more, than homosexuals? And why don't we just condemn everyone we consider a sinner? How about the wealthy, shall they burn in hell too? The bible clearly states that no rich man shall get to heaven. Before we choose our stones we should realize that we're all in glass houses.

i promise this will be my lsat question on this subject today.
this is to go along with my last two questions.

so if i am to understand some of your previous answers ...
i can be a bad peson and still get into heaven if i accept jesus and believe he died for my sins? even if all my life i am a bad person and on my death bed i repent?
that hardly seems fair or right.
again this is not to be offensive this is a serious question.
