Great question! Contrary to what some Christians believe, you can say you accept Jesus all you want, but getting to heaven requires keeping the new commandment...Love God and love each other. People on their death bed are always willing to accept Jesus..I don't believe in that crap. People who don't believe in God but love their fellowmen may have a better chance of going to heaven than those who believe in God and ignore their fellowmen. Jesus said 'Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers, that you do unto me. It's impossible to love God and not love those around you.' All true love comes from God..and even the Atheists who don't believe in a God but loves his fellowman has a good chance of getting into heaven.

Your kind of twisting it a little. It depends on the manner in which you make this "change" on your death bed. If you say "oh I believe in Christ now" because you are dying...I don't think that will work.
If you willingly and knowingly commit sin thinking I will repent later, chances are you won't ever repent because you will always procrastinate that day. You cannot be saved out of ignorance either.
If there was a person who sinned, never repented, and then right before they died had a change of heart, they were sincere and God will know who is and isn't, then they would have a place in his kingdom.
But, if you sin your whole life, say you will change later, chances are you won't or it won't mean anything when you do because you aren't doing it for the right reason.
If a person dies without having a chance to accept or reject the gospel, he will have a chance in spirit prison before judgement. That is why Mormon's do temple work for the dead. They can attain the highest degree, Celestial glory, if they accept the gospel. Also in the celestial Kingdom, faithful members of LDS church, who made the covenants obtaining to celestial glory. The Celestial Kingdom is the only kingdom where man and woman will still be married, where God lives and Christ lives throughout eternity.
If a person dies having had a chance to accept the gospel and didn't on earth, but then does later in spirit prison, the highest degree of glory they can attain is Terrestial. Also in the Terrestial will be people who were righteous, but were either not faithful members of LDS church (who did not go throught the temple) and members of any other religion.
If a person dies having no religion and having had the chance, does not accept it in the after life, the highest degree they can attain is Telestial.
Any other questions, contact me.

We are judged by the light that we are given. If you are a horrible person and you don't know about Jesus until two minutes before you die, and you accept Him into your life, then you will go to heaven - just like the thief on the cross who died next to Jesus. But if you DO know Jesus, for years say, and you don't follow the commands of the Bible, then YES, you will be judged on not obeying the Lord. But we obey Him because we LOVE Him. He loves you so passionately, and He paid such a dear price to make sure that you could come to Heaven and live with Him for eternity in a place sheltered from all pain, sorrow, and death - who wouldn't want to submit to God to receive all that? I want that! So I obey Him gladly and I am so thankful for the price He paid so that I CAN join Him in Heaven someday...
By the way - the Bible talks about Mannassah and Isaiah, the prophet of God. Mannassah had Isaiah put into a hollow log and sawed him in half - length-wise! But later on, he repented and the Bible says that he will be in heaven. Do you think Isaiah will be surprised? I think so, but I think he will be happy too, because that is the way that people are when they have the love of Jesus in their hearts.

Here's the real deal. Even "good" people are sinners. God tells us in Isaiah 64:6 " But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away."
So really, the fact that anyone makes it into Heaven is a matter of God's mercy and grace. Yes, even to the deathbed convert.
But, as I said before, there are many whose hearts become so calloused as they live like hell all their lives, that they cannot at the point of death bring themselves to take the step of faith needed to have a true conversion.
UPDATE: Contrary to the opinion of some, good works, such as loving others, or being baptized, etc., is not a requirement. The thief on the cross next to Jesus had no such opportunity. He only asked Jesus to remember him when He came to His kingdom. And Jesus responded, "Truly, today you will be with me in paradise."

the key word in your question is repent. TRUE repentence is a heart thing. if you are a crappy or even a good person your entire life, but you don't trust in God with your heart...even if you says "I repent...I repent..." you will probably go to hell, but no one knows that except God . The beauty of God's plan is that it was created so that the undeserving...all of us...have a way to reach heaven. Mercy and Grace...Grace is getting what you don't deserve, and mercy is not getting what you do deserve. My point is God said He looks on the heart. Man does not. so so-called christians (I would like to think I am a christian) can give you this set of "rules" they've laid down....a sort of "How to" for heaven...but in the end it's between you, God and no one else.

Yes as amazing as it may sound, God's love is truly unconditional. All that He asks is that you repent and believe in Him. There very seldom are "bad" people, but they choose to do bad things. There is always hope when you put your trust and faith in God and His Son Jesus Christ.
God loves all people the same and each has the chance for everlasting life, even if it is on their death bed. If you have ever spent time with a dying person it truly is amazing to hear them speak of Jesus, God and believing, when you have never heard them speak of it before. God is there and in their dying I do believe they see much more than we can.

The parable was told by Jesus in Matthew 20:
I hope you understand it!
1 "For the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who was the master of a household, who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard.
2 When he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard.
3 He went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace.
4 To them he said,'You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.' So they went their way.
5 Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did likewise.
6 About the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle. He said to them,'Why do you stand here all day idle?'
7 "They said to him,'Because no one has hired us.' "He said to them,'You also go into the vineyard, and you will receive whatever is right.'
8 When evening had come, the lord of the vineyard said to his manager,'Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning from the last to the first.'
9 "When those who were hired at about the eleventh hour came, they each received a denarius.

That's not what we Catholics believe. God judges not on what you profess to believe but on how you live that belief. Demons can cry "Lord, Lord," and that does not save them. And by the way if you wait until your deathbed to repent you may find a surprise. Many of us die without that chance. Death can come suddenly and often does.
Peace of Christ,
Debra

If you don't mean it, and just say sorry. It does no good. But yes, if you truley accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you will be saved.
Why plan it for when you're about to die? You might get in a car crash tomorrow and not have the chance to be saved.

Okay... if you "accept" Jesus and then just keep living as you had in the past, have you truely repented? If you were sincere about your repentence to God, then wouldn't you change your lifestyle accordingly as to live a life pleasing to God?
