What percentage of Americans understand that plastics, medicines, fertilizers and certain food items come from a barrel of oil?

Given that there are numerous ways to generate energy, doesn't it seem like quite a waste of material to essentially "burn" the barrel of oil to generate energy? At some point people will have to decide what to do with the limited amount of oil we have - that decision being to either burn it or using it as a building block for consumer products such as plastics and medicines.

I just wonder how many Americans think about these not-so-silly matters.

In the end, they're just people targeted by the media. They're on TV, they're on the radio. So what? Why does everyone treat them like they are more important? Even the celebrity haters do this. They pay more attention to them than Mr. Johnson across the world. But are they really more important than Mr. Johnson across the world? They're all just people.

I think it reflects that all of us are just the medias playthings.

Tennessee, baby! The people are friendlier, there is more to do, there is more interesting Civil War Heritage, the state is much prettier (Natchez Trace, Smokies, etc.,) it has a more mellow atmosphere, and the food is SOOO good! Nashville is booming, Memphis is unique, and "Rocky Top" is a cool song! There are also some great universities there (UT, Vandy, U. of South, Belmont, etc.)

Kentucky, for it to be so economically and educationally dismal, is very snooty and thinks it is "special." As for the small towns, they are not welcoming to outsiders at all. The horse farms are beautiful. But, the eastern KY mountains are not pretty at all after fall foliage; in fact, they are really quite trashy. I lived there--a crappy place! I'd even live in NYC or Cali before KY.

here is a current quote from a chicago newspaper about some of the 7,000 people bush has decided to let breeze into our country:

(Chicago, IL) -- Bond is denied for a Rogers Park man who allegedly beat his wife, mother-in-law and sister-in-law to death with a sledgehammer over the weekend. DE, (names removed by me) a recent immigrant from Iran, faces first-degree murder charges in connection with the killings. Chicago Police Commander TB says they're working with translators to find a motive. There are reports that E left a videotaped apology on the phone. He also reportedly says he felt "disrespected" by his female relatives. When police responded to the scene Sunday morning, they allegedly found E hitting himself in the head with the murder weapon, in an attempt to kill himself. He was taken to a nearby hospital.

bush has gone insane by listening to the un to allow 7,000 iraqis into this country. iran is over the border. you think they are much different?

So 'pursuit' means to go after or move towards. So why are so many NOT pursuing anything?

How many think that if you're an American you should be pursuing something, anything? And that if you're just a leech, bleeding this country dry by popping out 20 kids and/or smoking/snorting your life away, you should be kicked out?

In other words, get up and work or get out!

(This OBVIOUSLY wouldn't apply to the disabled or stay-at-home caregivers. Just the drunk/high/stoned losers who are milking our tax dollars.)

Christian music is a genre based on the content of the lyrics. Other genres are based on the style of the music. Odd?? I just read a book review that said the author was Grisham meets Peretti, but he couldn't decide which genre he wanted to write in. Does anyone else find this odd? Can a book be a thriller / adventure/ mystery AND have Christian values and characters? It seems this reviewer thinks it isn't possible. Life has people that are Christian and _______ -- but it seems we don't like our entertainment to include differing qualities.

I think it's rude that young couples, especially teenage couples, have to show off by locking lips and smooching for a long time. I mean, I've done stuff like that too, but some of you couples go way too far!!! How do you think lonely singles feel who yearn for intimate companionship when they see that? Some feel pretty jealous! What kind of impression do you think it will leave on the smaller (non-teen) children? All of you might be setting a bad example for people younger and younger that get into lust way too quick without learning what love is about first. Playing the lip locking game way too young might entice early hormones in young people who may turn out to be out of control! Please people - SHOW SOME RESPECT!

Why do humans feel the need to be so cruel to animals? Like animal testing... anyone have any idea what they do to them? At some universities they shove metail coils into the eye sockets of monkeys to study eye movement. Is that really necassary? No! They do so much worse, too... Animals have no say! It's ridiculous... And another thing that bothers me is the fact that there is alternative ways to do this, too... It's just more expensive than using animals. It's faster, too. And more accurate... Why are scientists so selfish?!?

And what is your opinion?

FRIENDLIEST is: TEXAS!!!! Some wonderful folks live there!

STILL FRIENDLY: Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia (outside Atlanta,) Tennessee, Oklahoma, Wyoming, and South Carolina, in my experiences. Some parts of Utah, Oregon, and Kansas aren't too bad.

LEAST FRIENDLY: Well, several states could vie for this title. Any state east of the Mississippi and north of the Ohio (upper midwest/northeast.) Also, Kentucky and Florida are contenders.

I'm britsh by the way. What i would like to know is, how did america, a nation which is only a couple of hundred years old, become so god damn powerful.

Almost everything in the world now seems to have something to do with america. I hate to admit it but, the world is pretty much american. Nowadays, whatever america says goes. If they wanted to nuke someone, they could, and know one could do a damn thing about it.

How come, less than a hundred years ago, the british (british empire), ruled like a quarter of the world, and for centuries before that we pretty much ruled the world. Yet now america rules every ****.

Why is it britain, and most nations, are americas bum boys. If they say jump we jump basically.

How can a nation become so powerful, that it's almost like they are invincible?

Do you think it's because people from all over the world moved their for a better life years ago (i.e. the irish, german, italians, etc), and they are like one big world anyway.
