They didn't really use slaves to build Australia because as part of the British Empire slavery was outlawed early on: 1820. The indigenous aboriginals had much the same fate as the American Indians. They had a 'populate or perish' campaign in the 60's encouraging further white settlement and breeding, pretty much the opposite of the US.
