There was an article on the front page of the newspaper about a poor family who could not afford to fix the furnace, therefore they had no heat. They had 4 space heaters plugged into a frayed extension cord. They had all 4 gas burners burning for heat. They had a smoke detector, but it was broken. The first sentence said that it was so cold in so&so's house, that the water in the dog's bowl was frozen. Also, the woman in the picture was wearing a short sleeve shirt. How many things are wrong here, or is it just me??

We are a nation of see or be seen and along those lines I pose this question. Do we make ourselves look handsome, pretty, or just plain good looking because of other people, more than doing it for ourselves? Or do we do this for our own pleasure? I don't know about other people, but sometimes I just go out not caring what other people are going to think of me and dress down big tim. Then on the other foot, I go out most of the time caring what other people are going think of when they see me. Can you imagine a world without make-up or fancy clothing and apparel? We just walk around for who we are.

I am an American. I have been coming on the UK & Ireland site for a while now. And I was wondering why there is still so much amimosity between the two? It seems to come more from the British. Example "Scots are soooo thick" and "they are arrogent". I understand that there were wars and battles between the two but that was so long ago. Is it just people mouthing off, trying to be funny, or is that the general consensus? I am just curious and not trying to offend anyone.

I got to thinking about what society seems to push upon us: Have a family, have a house...society seems to want to tie us down. Am I way off base on this? Am I viewed as odd because I viewed this from outside of "the norm"?

Do you believe that all the things our ancestors felt or believed is what makes us today? Or do you feel that our own ideas are not influenced by our ancestors? Why or why not?

If you never did drugs then dont even bother to answer because I'm sure your here just to knock drugs and label anyone that does them is a loser. First off everyone knows pot should be legal, who cares your arugment... it is not half as bad as alchol and kills 100% less than alchol (btw 0 documented weed deaths). Tobacco gimmie a break the #1 leading killer of US citizens.. there should be a war on tobacco not pot. 435,000 deaths a year thats almost 25% of all deaths are caused from tobacco related illness. I mean is something not really wrong with our society? People say it cant be regulated umm I could grow my own tobacco but I dont cause it is much easier to goto the gas station and buy it. Same could apply to mary jane. Also I'm not sure on the numbers but over 60% of people in jail are there for drug related offenses. Drug use is a medical condition not something that you can just tell someone to stop using and bam they will. They need treatment. And I doubt getting it in the A$$

It's funny... some people are inclined to speak twice as loudly into a cell phone than they would speak into a regular landline phone. Their voice then become so muffled that it is impossible to understand a word they say.

Then if the connection is choppy because they've travelled out of range, these people are inclined to speak even louder - as if that could possibly improve the situation in any way.

Just wondering - Why do people do this?

What are we going to do if we go to war with China or there's another world war or something? We don't make many products of our own.

I have heard people talk about a person chyming, the throes of death,'travelling' etc. What is the black stuff on the tongue of a person who is dying or has died? Why does the person feel heavier and some people body stretch longer?Someone in a recent near death experience had a green or black tongue and it was not from medicine. In the movies,it seems so simple and dramatic but some people who may have been extremely sick rally up and seem to be getting better; but they die.

If you wanted to know more about a place which you haven't got a chance to visit before, you search for it , though internet or perhaps library but what you get are those very superficial explanations which do not really satisfy you despite provided with pictures. This is exactly how I feel , that's why I am asking this. I want to hear from the person, the person living in somewhere else, telling me the life there. Thanks.

Okay so stereotypically women like chocolate, and you can't deny probably about 6-8/10 women crave chocolate all the time. But really, why chocolate so much? It can't be just because it's sweet because there are plenty of other options loaded with sugar...Is there something chemically in chocolate that works well with a woman's chemistry?
