Okay so stereotypically women like chocolate, and you can't deny probably about 6-8/10 women crave chocolate all the time. But really, why chocolate so much? It can't be just because it's sweet because there are plenty of other options loaded with sugar...Is there something chemically in chocolate that works well with a woman's chemistry?

Chocolate has three major flavors/textures that humans naturally crave: sweet, meat, and fat. When I heard that, I wondered about the "meat" bit. Turns out that chocolate is roasted, which adds some fire/burned flavor we associate with meat and protein.

Humans are hard-wired to like flavors that tell the body they're getting things they need for survival, and for most of human history starvation was the problem, not too many calories. So the texture of fat (cocoa butter), the sweetness of sugar, and the signal of protein (roasting/meat) all push buttons in our brains that tell us "this is good; get more".

What is it that makes chocolate so irresistible? A large part of chocolate's allure, of course, lies in the taste - a deliciously rich concoction that satisfies the most intense craving. But several chemical reactions are also at work. For one thing, chocolate stimulates the secretion of endorphins, producing a pleasureable sensation similar to the "runner's high" a jogger feels after running several miles.

Chocolate also contains a neurotransmitter, serotonin, that acts as an anti-depressant. Other substances, such as theobromine and phenylethylamine, have a stimulating effect. However, the truth is that scientists are still not positive how the over three-hundred chemicals contained in chocolate make us feel so good.

It takes the place of a man-unlike what your first responder wrote, it does NOT produce a hormone like in sex, it produces the chemicals in your brain that are created when you have feelings of being in love. So, yes, it makes it a very powerful drug like substance. Eating chocolate without the fuss and muss of being in a relationship. I know a woman who takes baths in chocolate milk-she says it works for her.

The chemical works in men and women.
It's just that women are flooded with more fluctuating hormones. But come on bro-you don't like chocolate?????

It's got the right amount of sweetness plus it's own distinct flavor. Did you know the Mayans and Aztecs worshipped chocolate?

Yes, as a matter of fact, chocolate causes the body to produce the same hormone as sex.

There's a feel-good enzyme in chocolate that mimics the way you feel after great sex! Maybe men don't feel it, but we sure do!
