As I'm not a native english speaker, I'm trying to translate something I'm not sure how to.

This is about the painting that covers a pipe. It seems the pipe is painted first with some covering, and then, finished with another one.

In spanish we would use the word "acabado" to understand the way something looks finished, or to express the type of material something is covered with.

Here I have to translate the word "acabado" to express then, the type of painting of the pipe.

I hope to be making myself clear on this, and thanks for trying helping me.

While teaching English my students often use thier knowledge of grammar to come up with some interesting sentences, but are not natural at all and usually just sound odd. The problem is, I can't explain why they are wrong, I just never hear people say them.
Here are some examples I can think of off the top of my head,

How long have you liked tennis?
I've been likeing tennis for 2 years.

What sports can you play?
I can play swim, play bowl and play ski.

Here is a the/a question

Which train are you taking?
I'm taking the green line.

from what I remember with proper nouns, "the" is not normally used.

for example;

I'm going to McDonalds.
versus
I'm going to the McDonalds in Tarrytown.
and
I'm going to a McDonalds in Tarrytown.

Explaining these differences is a very difficult and even high level students often make mistakes such as these,
Does any one have an explanation or advice on how to explain these ideas?

Listening to the commentators at the rugby world cup, I often here them say "the England players" or "the Scotland team". Is this correct or should they use "English" or "Scottish" instead?

Likewise, should we say "The Germany football game will be played in Berlin" or "The German football game will be played in Berlin"?

I am planning to go to Grad school to study Theology. Now, I have the options to study Greek or Latin (Most likely I will study Greek). Anyway, my question is, since I am planning to self-study, I know I need to learn to understand, read, and write it but WHEN I STUDY ANCIENT GREEK OR LATIN, DO I ALSO NEED TO LEARN HOW TO SPEAK THEM?

*I mean, I know that It's kind of weird but since I will be researching Greek or Latin texts and READING them, do I still need to know how to speak it?

THANKS!
