The word sport when said in plural is still sport.
There is no 's' on the end.
Like other plural words :

one fish lots of fish
etc etc!

We say

drive drove driven
give gave given
take took taken
write wrote written
break broke broken
eat ate eaten
shrive shrove shriven
smite smote smitten

We also refer to "cloven-hoofed" animals such as goats.

Does it sound strange to you if I say "My little boy THROVE on a healthy diet"? or "I have THRIVEN since I gave up smoking"?

What does Yahweh mean? Is it just me or do the words "I am who am" not fall into the category of correct english? Is it simply meant that God is all that is? and what of Elohim? What does it mean and why did jeses himself use it if YHWH is the sacred name of The Lord? Comprehensive answers involving linguistic analysis welcome. Monotheist bashing, unsupported claims, and information gleamed from wikipedia are not.

i just heard this song at it is so beautiful... 'luna' by alessandro safina

Luna tu
Quanti sono i canti che hai ascoltato gia
Desideri che attraverso i secoli
Han solcato il cielo per raggiungerti
Porto per poeti che non scrivono
E che il loro sennospesso perdono
Tu accogli i sospiri di chi spasima
E regali un sogno ad ogni anima
Luna che mi guardi adesso ascoltami

Choeur: Only you can hear my soul, only you can hear my soul

Luna tu
Che conosci il tempo delléternita
E il sentiero stretto della verita
Fa piu luce dentro questo Cuore mio
Questo cuore d’uomo che non sa, non sa

Che l’amore puo nascondere il dolore
Come un fuoco ti puo bruciare l’anima

Choeur: Only you can hear my soul, only you can hear my soul

Luna tu
Tu rischiari il cielo e la sua immensita
E ci mostri solo la meta che vuoi
Come poi facciama quasi sempre noi
Angeli di creta che non volano
Anime di carta che si incendiano
Couri come foglie che poi cadono
Sogni fatti d’aria che svaniscono
Figli della terra e figli tuoi che sai

Che l’amore puo nascondere il dolore
Choeur/A. Safina: Che l’amore puo nascondere il dolore

Come un fuoco ti puo bruciare l’anima
Choeur/A. Safina: Come un fuoco ti puo bruciare l’anima

Choeur/A. Safina: Alba lux, diva mea, diva es silentissima

Ma e con l’amore che respira il nostro cuore
E laa foorzaa che tutto muove e illumina! . . .

Choeur: Only you can hear my soul, only you can hear my soul

Alba lux, diva mea, diva es silentissima !... . . . .

When you talk about a band, say, Depeche Mode, or any group/association, do you use the conjugation "is" or "are"?

For example, "Depeche Mode are releasing a new album soon!!" or "Depeche Mode is releasing a new album soon!!"

I always thought it was "is" because the noun is considered to be ONE thing, not many. I'm asking because on a forum I go to, the administration is constantly using the word "are" and it's totally wrong to me, but honestly, I don't know anymore.

How did the American accent develop exactly? If they knew no other way of talking, then how did they start speaking different? I know there are all different types of accents around America also, but still, New Englanders don't have the same accent as Great Britain. How did all these different accents develop, and how come we Americans don't just all have British accents? Also, how long did it takes for this to happen? Does anyone know a time period about? And what exactly is the cause? Just that they were away from England for years doesn't explain it.

Are there any Hebrew names (traditional or modern Israeli names) remotely similar to Kim or Kimberly?

(I'm interested in real Hebrew names, not a phonetic
spelling of Kimberly in Hebrew.)
