Today I looked into the bathroom mirror and I couldn’t believe what I saw. The girl that was standing there wasn’t the same girl who I saw just a couple of months ago. The girl I saw today was all black and blue. She looked tired, like she hadn’t gotten sleep in years. Her eyes were swollen and filled with sadness. Her hair was a mess and she looked too thin. I couldn’t believe that the girl I saw was me. I asked myself how I got like this and I could only think of one answer. You. How could something that started out so wonderful end up like this? Why did you change all of a sudden?

This is what the paper says in espanol:
I translated thus:

As a complement to this Decree, it was indicated that the ejido (peasants) of the town of San Miguel would have an extension of five thousand castilian varas (.84 meters) per side, which was the maximum determined according to the agreement of the Legislative Assembly, April, 8th, 1844. They recomended to themselves that they layout the measurements of the towns, with streets twelve varas (.84 meters) wide and apples squared 120 varas (.84 meters) in length. The grid of the town ought to be in the center the plaza and this ought to have the main buildings: the church

I translated as

As an object (complemento=object) of this Decree, it was indicated that the ejido (indigenous people) of the town of San Miguel would have one extension of five thousand Castilian varas (.84 meters) by side, that was the maximum that was determined according to the agreement of the Legislative Assembly of the 8 of April of 1844.

I hear this a lot from Americans who are pro-war:

"You'd be speaking German/Japanese if it wasn't for blah blah blah."

When I hear that, my reaction is, "Cool. Maybe German isn't all that great, but I'd like to speak it. Japanese is an amazing language, and the people in Japan really respect their language. The letters are so beautiful."

Anyway, if you just restrict your thought to one language, you're obviously missing out on the whole picture.

Whoever can't speak a second language, doesn't know their own. You're so trapped in your own language that you can't even be aware of it.
