I mean, I´m from Madrid, Spain, and I´ve always wondered how do you hear the spanish from Spain, I know, loud, but apart of that...
I´ve always liked the sound of english sound, the accent is so cool, the north american and the canadian accent are the best...

Please, noticed that in Spain are different accents, I mean, I want to know how does it sound the neutral spanish accent, with no accents...

And please, try to be polite,
thanks!

I'm a final-year languages & translating and interpreting studies student. I spent my year abroad working as a translator for companies in France (sports retailer) & Germany (manufacturer of speech aids for laryngectomees) and I plan to spend my next year doing another work placement in Germany, which is being organised by my university. I want to do an MA in translating afterwards, with a view to becoming a translator in the future. My problem is that I've been offered the choice of two different work placements for next year. Translation is a major part of both placements, although they also involve general office work. The first company is a German media company, which would give me the opportunity to do something different & interesting, plus I'm unlikely ever to have the opportunity to work for a TV company again.

I hear and read more and more of Americans using terms like " Go to hospital" also "on island" and our "troop". When, if you went to school in America would be "Go to the hospital", "on the island" and " soldier". The latter is more and more in the news. A troop was killed, what happened to a soldier or sailor? Sound as if more than one person was killed when troop is used. Should the person be from England speaking, than understandable. When you know the person was educated in America what is the reason, to sound as if they were not? Proud to be an American and speak like one.

I named my daughter Takara, which is Japanese for "precious one" or "treasure". I am not Japanese, but I love the name and it's meaning. So much I want the symbol tattooed, so I want to make sure I get the right symbol. I want to know if Takara is the literal translation to "treasure" or if treasure is its own word. i.e., would the japanese symbol for Treasure be the same as "Takara"? Or is Takara just a name meaning precious/treasured one? Does that make sense?

Thanks for the help!

...And then still pronounce it like they didn't drop a random-@$$ O into it?

And while I'm at it, what's with "al-you-mini-um"? It's "Al-oom-in-um"!
(And don't say the "British discovered it, they'le pronounce it how they want", I've heard that one. It was the DUTCH. Hans Christian Ørsted.)
