Is the japanese symbol for "treasure" the same as the name "Takara"? I would like to know the difference.

I named my daughter Takara, which is Japanese for "precious one" or "treasure". I am not Japanese, but I love the name and it's meaning. So much I want the symbol tattooed, so I want to make sure I get the right symbol. I want to know if Takara is the literal translation to "treasure" or if treasure is its own word. i.e., would the japanese symbol for Treasure be the same as "Takara"? Or is Takara just a name meaning precious/treasured one? Does that make sense?

Yes, it's the same symbol 宝 for both 'treasure' and your daughter's name.

You could use other symbols to represent the sound of Takara, but as you seem to want the name to retain the meaning, not just the pronunciation, 宝 is just fine.

and yes, your question does make sense. you just don't understand the differences between english and japanese, is all. it's like if you're asking if a western name like "ariel" (which means "lion of god" i believe) can be written like "lion of god" or "ariel", and if these two things are directly equivalent.

in western terms, no. if you wrote "lion of god" nobody would really understand you meant for it to mean "ariel". in japanese, since words are represented by symbols and not letters, the symbol for treasure is exactly what you have named your daughter as it is.

I don't understand what this question means. "Jesus" is the Greek form or the Hebrew "Joshua." And "Christos" essentially means the same thing as "Messiah." Take a language lesson.
