English is my second language, and I've heard people saying "16 candels" and I'll like to know what they mean by this. Thanks.

im teaching myself how to speak italian and the book i bought recommends that i listen to some italian music or recordings in italian so i can get used to listening to the language. anyone know anything decent? any style or genre is fine as long as its not opera cause there's no way i'll be able to understand a word they sing.

thanks!!

anything where i can listen to italian would be great!!!

I don't see people in other countries being infinitely patient with people who speak english.
I wouldn't expect people in other countries (non english-speaking) to struggle to understand me, either.
Bottom line, if I repeatedly can't understand someone's english, what should I do?
I know that learning a 2nd language is hard for many people, but it took me years to get over 40 wpm typing, but I had to for my job.

In our English class we sing "The end of the world" of Davis Skeeter. The lyrics we use, that is printed in Japan, says "It ended when you say Goodbye". I think "said" is correct instead of "say" from English grammar. Please teach me.

when meaning they don't care? Surely it's obvious that "I couldn't care less" is the only one that makes sense? as in, "I care so little, I really couldn't care any less"! has anyone else ever noticed this?

I've wanted to learn Japanese for a while, and have just recently started to get around to it. I've gotten plenty of free instruction and vocab and stuff online, but I want something with CDs that go along with lessons that show you how to pronounce the words correctly. I'm doing fine with my other stuff, but some words I'm having trouble figuring out how to prounounce and I just want to make sure I get the sounds right. Has anyone else used a program they liked, either for your computer or with CDs or tapes?

I am very irritated that everytime you go to the ATM, call a credit card company, bank, mortgage lenders etc..... Why do they ask if you want to push 1 for English or 2 for Spainish. Are we not in America, the language is ENGLISH... If you are going to come to this country learn the language!! Why do we cater to them... I am not saying they should lose there language or traditions, but use them at home, but when you are out you need to learn to speak English. If you cannot communicate, get a translator!!! Does this bother anyone else????

I want to know how to pronounce it right when customers complain about something. I'm kidding, I just want to know how to say it if it comes up in conversation since it's cool. If I say it wrong and there's a jerk in the room who knows how to say it right, I don't want him correcting me trying to make me look like an idiot and make himself look like a jerk in the process. So if you guys could point me in the direction of a place with the correct pronounciation or if someone could record it and send it to me even, I know that would be extra work and I doubt anyone would want to do that, that would be great.
Thanks,
Will
