I want to know how to pronounce it right when customers complain about something. I'm kidding, I just want to know how to say it if it comes up in conversation since it's cool. If I say it wrong and there's a jerk in the room who knows how to say it right, I don't want him correcting me trying to make me look like an idiot and make himself look like a jerk in the process. So if you guys could point me in the direction of a place with the correct pronounciation or if someone could record it and send it to me even, I know that would be extra work and I doubt anyone would want to do that, that would be great.
Thanks,
Will

I'm sorry to disapoint everybody here, but we are pretty sure of the way latin was pronouced at various points in time. the websites suggested can surely help. For a short phrase like this, the main thing to remember is that the average Roman didn't know the V sound (A bit like many modern Spanish speakers to whom V is almost the same as B). Also, the letter V was pronounced as a U.
To cut a long story short, to you and I, it would sound something like:
Kah-way-at' (with a slight inflection of kah and a stress on at')
emptoor (like door, or floor, with a stress on the "em").
I hope this helps,

This is a Latin phrase, and since Latin is a dead language, nobody knows how it was truly pronounced. In other words, the pronunciation is up for grabs. You should be able to find a pronunciation guide for "caveat" in any dictionary.

kay vee att em tor (emphasis on 4th syllable)
Best I can do. If anyone doesn't like the way you say it, just smile and say 'That's how my teacher always used to say it '.
Don't be afraid of being wrong - nobody's right ALL the time!
