It indicates you're annoyed, and want people to shove off.

They have probably made a rude joke or insult about you, or teased you about something.

The background behind the expression comes from the fact that, if people are so fearless of you as to make fun of you or tease you, why don't they get close enough to physically bite you? They are attempting to sting or bite you with words, so you're inviting them (non-literally) to dare to step even closer and insult you or bite you.

It is a somewhat non-aggressive way of showing superiority or more power over someone else who has verbally attacked you.

.It actually means I could care less,or buzz off,get lost,do I look like I care,f*** off,any number of meanings ,none are very nice or polite

i say it all the time and it usually just means that i have nothing better to say... like when you run out of "your momma" jokes... lol but yeah, thats what it means.

i think it sorta means the same thing as "screw you" i'm not sure, but i think that is what it is
