I don't know of any website that teaches French, but I do know of one that helps you learn vocabulary with pictures.
It's
http://www.pdictionary.com/french/
This website was recommended to me by my French teacher for practice. I learn my French at a high school that, even though it doesn't offer classes for free, it offers them at a very long class. French is a very hard language, so I recommend you take classes with an actual teacher that can answer all of your questions. I know you don't want to spend a lot of money, so my best recommendation is a community college or a high school that offers this type of classes.
Bonne chance!

I take French classes at school, but there are many community colleges that teach French and other languages.

Bonjour! I speak french and i can tell you that there is s lot of rules compared to english! But 'it's not imposseble. U can get a book and some CD's to start with, then u can follow a course witha ateacher. I know it's more expensive but if u learn it that way then it's best for u. Really.
Je te souhaite une bonne chance, avec le francais. I meant good luck by the way. :)

To get used to the language, you can get tapes, videos... However, the problem you may encounter is if you undersand it even perfectly well, and you pronounce something the way you think it is right, but may not necessarily be, you will be screwed because no one may understand you. Using those as adjunct material is fine, but I think you may as well just get a 3-hour class at a community college (under $300 with tuition and fees) and get your money's worth. I would not expect to know the language enough to communicate with people after one semester, though if you apply yourself and really get into it, with a good immersion program, you would be fine. Good luck with that.

Go to a library and get tapes that teach it to you. I had a friend of mine teach me but it takes some time to perfect it!
