A friend of mine said for the past 3 years all her family give £100 pounds to charity and don't buy for each other. Do you think this is a good idea ?

I'm boycotting toys this year due to all of the recent recalls and I'd like some ideas of what to stuff my daughter's stocking with. I stuffed it this morning with the following and I still have room:

Three Sesame Street ornaments
Jr. Slinky (made in the USA)
Stickers
Underwear (potty training is hopefully just around the corner)
M&M Candy Cane
Backyardigans Band-Aids
Toddler toothbrush
Toddler training paste

Any other ideas?? She's getting mostly books under the tree flash, cards, clothes, as well as a few games, so I don't want to put books into her stocking. Thanks!

When do you usually get all of your holiday shopping completely finished? How good does it make you feel when you can sit back and say "ahhh i'm done!"

I'm not talking about:
leaving cookies out for santa
setting up the tree same day each year
going to church service

I want to know your ideas of how to input some new traditions. Creative ideas!

okay, it's known that i HATE my christmas tree. can't have a real one and can't stand the fake one. i mean, REALLY can't stand the fake one. i thought about cutting a giant tree shape out of wood, staining it real nice and covering it with little nails. lean that against the wall and still be able to put all my decorations on it. anybody ever heard of that? or have any suggestions?? come on now, you guys are the best!

My new mother in law doesn't really care for me, although she sometimes try to pretend she does. We only see each other maybe twice a year so I really don't know her very well. However, I still want to get her a gift for Christmas since this is my first Christmas in the family. But I am at a complete loss.

I grew up in a house where Christmas was a big deal... now I sit at 46 with a son in the mental hospital, a wife who has betrayed me and abused drugs, alcohol and herself for years and is just a fat and depressed loser now. She wants to have the whole Xmas thing this year. I don't. I am just now getting over thanksgiving when I had nothing to be thankful for whatsoever... now i am supposed to pretend i give a damn about Christmas. Lets worry about the rest of the year, why don't we? Then we'll talk about Christmas. Oh, religious people, I have nothing against you. Its not the holiday I am against... just the secular celebration.

Every year we put out a painted Santa and a homemade HoHoHo sign next to it. This year our new neighbor came over and told me that our HoHoHo sign was offensive to women and that I should take it down. I certainly don't want to offend people, but I've never even thought of that Christmas decoration as being taken that way. What do you think?

So, it looks as if we'll have to make gifts this year, due to financial constraints. I would love to hear your suggestions on what we can give, considering the following limitations:

* We're not very crafty, so we might have to limit ourselves to food gifts.
* We have a diabetic in the family, so high-sugar items aren't a great idea.
* Most of the recipients on our list don't drink, so booze doesn't really work.
* The recipients on our list live in the desert, and bread doesn't keep for longer than a day or two.

Thanks all!

Christmas shopping warning--they do! At a party I was given a lot of various gift cards, including a $50 American Express card. I decided to tuck it into my wallet for a rainy day. Well it "rained" and guess what. The card had expired. It was only good for 13 months. It's been 15. It had no value. After being informed it expired, I looked closer at the card and it does list an expiration date.

I'll bet the purchaser was not aware it would expired. He paid $50 for it. Since when does money expire? I never thought to look.
Just wanted to warn others.

I'm stuck and looking for ideas. We've been together almost a year and are very close. This is our first Christmas together and I really want to do something memorable. Money is not really a factor, but I think something memorable that really expresses how much she means to me is more important than going with the WOW factor of giving something really expensive. I think she would be more impressed with that too. So I leave it up to you people of yahoo....what would you do?

I am a resident assistant trying to find a fun activity for my residents to do in December that would involve the spirit of giving. I am looking for a craft or activity that would end with something we would be able to give to a group home, nursing home, ect.
My residents are mostly sophomore/ jr males and females.

Thank you
