I dont listen to cd's (i listen to itunes), i do NOT let my parents buy me clothes.....that would b a disaster! I want a cell phone but we really dont need any more expenses at the moment......what should i want?!?! lol

Christmas is right around the corner and I'm really torn on this issue. Santa has become so commericialized and has started to be used as a way to replace alot of the real reasons behind why we celebrate Christmas.

I'm starting to see kids seeing Christmas as the "season of what can I get" rather than the season of giving. My daughter will just be shy of 2 this Christmas and I don't know if we should tell her about Santa.

On one hand I don't want her to grow up and think that I lied to her. And I really want to focus on this being about celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.

On the other hand I don't want her to feel like she got cheated out fo the excitement and imagination of believing in Santa. Also its such a big thing with many families and I don't want her to be the one kid who spoils it for her classmates down the line.

I just can't seem to decide which way to go on this one..........

I'd like to make at least part, if not all, of my gifts for my family homeade this year. I don't want it to be cheesy, though. Do you have any ideas of things I could make? I'm pretty crafty, but it doesn't have to be a crafty item. Definitely not "knitted" items. Thanks~

Here's who I'm looking for ideas for:

35 years old- hubby
1 1/2 year old- daughter
1 month old- son
30 years old- sister
32 years old- brother in law
8 years old- twin nephews
1 year old- neice
50's- Mom & Dad

I'd like something kind of girly (for my daughter). No cartoon characters or snowmen please.

I usually cringe seeing the first tinseley bling and jingle on television ads from the middle of October onwards. I don't hate Christmas Day, I just despise the commercial band-wagon that infiltrates the tradition. Does anyone else feel like this? The stress of shopping among other stressed shoppers (who don't want to be there anyway), the high street charity-guy/beggar surge, thinking you have more cash to divulge their way, the endless campaign of fashionable must-have items, the persistent stupidity of a drunken idiot? Is it not too much too soon?

What does the old idea of Santa Clause mean? I know that the christmas tree has an origin in the holiday of Christmas, but where and WHY did Santa Come in the picture?

I'm sick of fighting with the inlaws and my parents about who is going where over christmas and new year. So we've put our feet down and doing a runner over the christmas period! Any suggestions?
