also, do i need to insulate between the lights and the roof, it gets very hot here over xmas.

Use light clips that slide between the sheets of tin.

You can find them at conventional hardware stores, or places like Home Depot or lowes.

If you do not want to use those, there are clip strips that can be attached to the roof and the lights can be attached to the strips.

Do you need to insulate the lights? Probably not, unless the lights start to ground out, causing breakers to trip, or fuses to pop. Then you simply need to lift them off the tin, or keep the plug from grounding on the roof or in water.

Light Clips are what you mentt o use but over the years my mom has used selotape!
