If it were me, I'd just stay home, cozy up and have a nice private Christmas alone and quiet. Why be on the road?
There are a host of Holiday movies to watch. Do some baking. Lay around in your PJ's all day. Open a present on Christmas Eve and when you get up Christmas Day have a big bowl of fruit salad and hot cinammon rolls.
Does it get any better than that?
g-day!

Start picking up copies of Budget Travel magazine. They have a "40 best deals" section with current deals on vacations in the U.S. and abroad. As it gets closer to the holidays, the section will have more options that extend into that season. Good luck, have fun. You can also check out the Budget Travel web site for ideas.
If the idea is just to get away, find a hotel with an indoor pool not too far from home and head there! There's always something to do in any area, even if it just means taking a break from life, going to the movies, checking out local restaurants, etc.

If you're traveling by air, check to see if the major airlines have special fares to underserved markets or short-hop destinations. At American Airlines, they call this NetSAAver and similar names. ALSO in these same underserved markets, like Richmond, VA, Cleveland, OH, Memphis, TN, Wilkes-Barre, PA, etc., the hotels are a lot cheaper, and you can often find a VERY nice quiet getaway at a B&B for a decent price. Moreover, there's stuff to do that isn't crowded by kid-toting families all wanting to go shake hands with Mickey or whatever.
If you're driving, the same rules apply -- try to look past the obvious destinations and to something that will be rewarding to the two of you.
And don't forget that even a lot of ORDINARY hotels will offer you something special if you say it's a special occasion.
Have fun!

I don't know where you live, but when I went to the Poconos during winter (beautiful) it was not that expensive. Many of the so-called honeymoon resorts have very few guests during the winter and especially during the holidays as they do most of their business in the warmer months. Or maybe Vermont (again beautiful.) You might want to look at Bed and Breakfasts instead of a resort. (Often times they are cheaper.) Check out places that are usually resort towns in the summer and have very little winter (off season) guests. Prices will be lower. At the very least, I'd splurge and stay at a ***** (5) star hotel in town for a few nights and enjoy.

Have you thought of a cruise? If you check last minute, they are cheap. They are fantastic and you will have a great time. The food is out of this world and there is a ton of stuff to do on the ship. For the money, it is one of the best vacations you can take. I have only been on two, but am planning on a third this coming year. Anyhow, I think between you and your wife, you might spend $1000 for the cruise and airfare.

If you're sure you want to go somewhere and get away, a person might need to know the area you live in, your age, your taste in music, entertainment, society, culture, and about how much you feel you are willing to spend. That being said--Branson MO. is a nice place to go. It isn't real expensive and there are a lot of things to do there. Branson has more country western style of things but there are many, many NON country western things going on. I understand they decorate big time for Christmas. You might want to go to a web page for Branson and check it out.

Yeah, it depends on where you're at. If you're around the tristate area, go for NYC, it really is a treat. Elsewhere, just scour local brochures and see what you can dig up with that. Perhaps you can rent a hall at a hotel?

Tell them you are going away but stay at home. Decorate your home and light candles and start your own traditions. Just enjoy each other and make memories you will have forever. Life is too short to worry about others so just enjoy what you have.
