Christmas - October 2007

To me Christmas has gotten very commercial. I did celebrate the holiday growing up but now it's just a paid day off work. I'm just wondering do most people celebrate Xmas because it was taught and do they really understand the so called holiday traditions and what they really mean? What about the peganism associated with Xmas?

Sorry I used to love Christmas, now I just hate it. I wish I could just hop on a plane and skip the whole thing! It's just a farce.

Ok the kids look forward to it but really I'd rather take all that money and plop it into a beach vacation away from everyone.

My mother was in a shoppingcenter in Maryland about 3 days ago and they were hanging the Christmas decorations on the lamp posts in the parking lot and the grocery store has Christmas trees on all the registers... Personally it makes me NOT want to shop there... I just don't understand, why so early?

I know people are complaining saying it's too early in the year to be talking or thinking about Christmas - but is there anyone else like me who has to start planning etc really early to make sure you can afford all the things you need??

I am a single parent, work full time and my wages aren't too bad BUT ----- when your still paying all the household bills AND trying to sort out Christmas it does become a bit of a strain - so starting ealrier in the year is the only solution!!!

Also the gadgets kids ask for seem to be getting more and more expensive each year!! or is that just my daughter getting older - Christmas is such a worry for me! (although I do love it!)

I asked a question about it and got loads of replies saying "What is it?" - I take it you are mostly USA?
Basically it's a really rich, heavy fruit cake, made weeks before Christmas to give it time to mature. Some people poke holes in it and pour alcohol over it weekly.
It's then covered in thick marzipan and iced. It's a great English Tradition.
Don't you guys eat this at Christmas? Start the tradition. Now!!

And he likes working on our yard.
Except everytime I ask him what he likes for gifts, he says he doesn't want anything. he makes it so hard to shop for things for him

When I was a kid Christmas was so much more about the spending time with Family and alot of our gifts were from the Heart i remember getting homemade gifts that was truely from the heart . Usually I hide mine in the closet in garbage bags but that was when my daughter was younger and didn't really pay much attention. Now she is 6 and is always following me around, even in our walk in closet. So I can no longer hide them in there.
I dont have much room in my house either.
I could ask a friend but then I have to load them all up and sneak them back over here. Plus the person I would ask, their grand kids may rip them up, they aren't very well behaved.
So where do you hide your presents so the kids dont find them.

OOOOK. I'm 15.... so i'm not loaded with money. I just got a job and by the time xmas shopping comes around.... i'll be able to spend $60 on each family member. I dunno what to buy for my dad.
