It doesn't make me mad. It makes me feel sorry for the person who doesn't really understand the meaning of Christmas in the first place. Call it whatever, no matter what the non-believers say, Christmas will forevermore be celebrated as the birth of the SAVIOR of the WORLD, Jesus Christ.

No, I actually looked up the terms "Xian" and "Xmas" as even though I'm an atheist I thought that they were rather rude. Imagine my surprise when I found out that they are old Christian terms where the X represents the Greek letter chi for Christ. They turn out to be both a term of respect and a good object lesson in making assumptions.

It use to bother me until I learned what some of the other posters have pointed out, that it stands for the Greek letter symbolizing Christ. That being said, I do not use it myself because I know that it no longer has that meaning for most of the people using it.

It doesn't annoy me that much because the Greek letter Chi (X) is actually an abbreviation for "Christ" and not a purposeful crossing out of Christ's name.

In the same way, the Greek letter Theta (can't type what it looks like) is an abbreviation for "Theos" or "God"

It makes me angry also. Saying "xmas" is taking "Christ" out of Christmas and Christmas is all about Christ.

It is like celebrating your birthday and not inviting you. It is just wrong.

If you want to shorten Christmas, say "Cmas" instead so at least you are acknowledging Christ as the One.

(((hugs)))

Drives me nuts. I have returned Christmas cards from friends for that reason. Christmas is spelled C H R I S T M A S not Xmas. I believe in Christ and he deserves being recognized not only during the holidays but at all times.

It looks like the name of an early-50s rock band, that's why

VT, Jesus' birthday was not on Christmas, they have proof. It's just when it is celebrated.

Yes! The reason behind Christmas is the birth of Christ; how much sense does it make to take the "Christ" out of Christmas?? It doesn't!

I don't give it much of a thought but the name is CHRISTMAS! Not x-mas, since we are celebrating the birth of Christ people shoud call it Christmas.

But it's not that big of deal!

Nope... it doesn't bother me at all Xmas or Christmas or even Winter-Solstice Celebration... whatever floats their boat.

I don't celebrate that holiday as a "religious" holiday - so they could call it "The Greedy Day of Reducing How Much We Love One Another to the Value of a Gift"-Celebration... and I'd be fine with it.
