You could use constuction paper and have them make garland. Lots of glitter, kid glue ( I suggest the sticks). Maybe get a polaroid camera and take pics of the kids and have them make decorations of there pics with paper and glue and glitter for there family. You could use yarn to make loops to hang them so the kids don't cut themselves metal..You could also make tiny little presents with the kids pics in side..etc...just be creative and research on the internet.

Why not bring in a digital camera and take pictures of the kids, focus on mainly their faces. Print them out and have them make paper ornaments (in different shapes, maybe use cookie cutters for the outline) and put the picture in the middle of the ornament. With a piece of yarn at the top for hanging on a tree, but if the parents want they can just put it on the refrigerator for year round. And you don't have to make them all about Christmas, you can make some in shapes of snow flakes, of course depending on the age of the children.

If there's a Michaels near you, go there, they have lots of ideas for hand made Christmas stuff for kids. They have from preschool age to adult. They're prices aren't too high either.

One of my favorites was when my children made thumbprints in clay and decorated them for ornaments. Another was the year that they took close up pictures of each child and put their head shot in the middle of a little cardboard wreath ornament that the child decorated. Still have these hanging on my tree even though kids now have kids of their own.

My favorite one is a handprint reindeer. Take brown construction paper and trace out the child's foot for the face, and then trace the child's hands for the antlers. Then assemble, let them decorate with a red nose, eyes, etc- laminate and then punch a hole and put yarn through to make a hanger for the tree.

Supplies:
wooden alphabet blocks (walmart or craft store) 1 per child
pompoms (little puff balls) (1 large, 4 small per child)
also one TINY pompom per child
small wiggle eyes
ribbon
glue
take the block with the letter that matches the first letter of the child's name (or just use any letter) and glue the large pompom on top (for the head) glue the two wiggle eyes onto the pompom, and then glue the tiny pompom on as a nose, the glue one small pompom on the left and right sides (to make arms) and glue the last two pompoms on the front at the bottom. finally cut a piece of ribbion to allow for hanging it on a tree, and glue to the sides that have the pompom "arms"
(will resemble a teddy bear with a block belly)

Materials: Felt (red, green, gold and brown) ,Poster board, a picture of each child, ribbon and a hole puncher. glitter glue.
Cut out the poster board into little reindeer shaped heads leaving room for a wide neck. Next put brown felt over top each head and trace and cut out. Glue the brown felt to the poster board cutouts. Place each child's picture (of their face) where the reindeer face should go and glue on. Have them decorate little wreaths to go around the neck with the red, green and gold felt and glitter. Use the hole puncher to make a hole at the top and tie ribbon in a loop so they can hang it.
This is so fun for the kids because they are really involved in it. Getting their pictures taken one by one and gluing their faces on, etc.
Write their name and year on the back.

One that I always use is a star tree top, have the children decorate cardboard stars with paint, glitter etc and then attach a cardboard tube to the back, this one is always a winner.
