He sort of likes cooking I guess
And he likes working on our yard.
Except everytime I ask him what he likes for gifts, he says he doesn't want anything. he makes it so hard to shop for things for him

Well, start thinking about the things you listed that you know he likes. Buy him something of interest in anyone of those areas. For example:
Watching TV: A subscription to TV guide, so he knows what's on and when. Something like a remote finder/holder or a new end table to put next to his favorite chair in the TV room (whichever room of your house that is). Maybe a small pillow or a nice cozy throw blanket to keep in his favorite chair. If he doesn't have a recliner, you could get him a really nice foot stool. Maybe even a back massager, for after a long day when he's relaxing watching TV. If you can afford it, you could even buy him a new chair.
Cars, trucks, and skidoos: Ok, so try shirts, hats, etc., with logos on them; like the Skidoo logo or if he drives Fords, etc., go with that. You could also get him scale models of an old car/tuck that he had when he was younger that was a particular favorite of his, or maybe he really loves Corvettes. Magazines in any of these areas are easy to find, get him a years subscription to something he might enjoy.
Elvis: Well there are posters, pictures, painting, etc., galore of this man, you could almost do anything in this area. But how about a soundtrack or CD your dad doesn't already have. Or download abunch of his favorite songs and burn him a few special 'Personal Remixes'.
Cooking: Well here is a fun topic. You could buy any number of specialty kits ... like a brownie mix in a cute canister that he just has to dump the stuff out and add like eggs and water and then the canister gets used later for something else like a cookie jar. They sell these things all the time. You could also buy him some new BBQ equipment, etc., or try making your own basket with some new kitchen equipment you know he could use. Like new dish towels, clothes, pot holders, mixing spoons, ladels, tongs, hand can openers, etc.
Yard Worker: Buy him some tools, etc., depending on what he normally does. Like does he work in a garden? You could make him a basket with some gardening tools, some potting soil, and packets of seeds.

If all else fails, you can always buy a gift card somewhere. All pourpose stores probably get more use. Good luck!

1. Get him a season of his favorite show on dvd.
2. Get him tickets for a car race, demo derby or better yet take him to one. Buy him a new snowmobile suit and/or gloves.
3. Buy him some Elvis cd's or memoribilia. Better yet take him to Graceland. If that's out of the question take him to see an Elvis impersonator.
4. Buy him a gift certificate to a local nursery and then help him plant whatever he buys with it.

Spend time with him doing something he likes. Buy him a gift
you can share with him: i.e.; Home depot card and help him with whatever he purchases. If he chooses plants, help him plant them. If he chooses a project construction or repair, come help(if you do nothing but hold the tools it is quality time spent and good memories). Good times are priceless. My folks are the same and I can't buy them anything they can't afford to purchase for themselves. My dad likes chocolate truffles(I buy him gourmet ones at The Rocky Mountain Factory(he doesn't have a store near by)). I buy my mom plants as they are a living reminder of the occasion(she a has green thumb). Good Luck and God Bless.

that's nice. buy him an elvis cd or something. or buy him a new car!!! lol kidding!! or u could do that.......well he does work hard so why not doing his chores and let him go out with his friends or let him have a long break. i mean working on the yard is tough work for a dad so give him a litle rest or some alone time for him. he might like it.

I get my dad a gift card every year for the local hardwear store. its not really personal, but at least I know it goes towards something he really wants rather then something he tells me he loves becuase hes my dad and thats his job but really he has no use for. sometimes i get him something like a bottle of his favourite alcohol or some shot classes to go with it. you could also try getting his favourite tv show on dvd so he can watch all the episodes.

Last year I bought my dad a grill utensil set and a package of gourmet burgers from Omaha Steaks. People usually appreciate food stuff as gifts and grilling is a real guy thing.
