If you write them, what do you say in general? If you don't like them, what is it that you don't like?

I send them out but never write anything depressing. Why would people do that? That's ridiculous. I also sent them b/c we update people on what we have been up to the past year (new jobs, moves, etc...) and we don't brag about stuff. That's rude also. I include what my son is currently interested in (books, toys, etc...) like our son loves Where the Wild things are and etc...currently and really loves playing with his train set. Hubby is still at his second year at this job and really enjoys it. Also still taking graduate classes, etc... I include what the kids have been for Halloween. I have 50 people I sent them to and no way have time to write hand written letters, telling them all everything I want. I limit it to one page and keep the news on every person very short and light.

Keep them to one page with large fonts.

Give a quick review of what has happened the past year.

End with a short paragraph requesting everybody to call you and wishing Merry Christmas.

I don't read the ones that get boring or too wordy.

I do NOT like getting those. Mainly because they are either incredibly depressing or they are nothing but Aunt Tammy bragging about her 3 PERFECT, angelic children that no one care about. I just think those are tacky and arrogant. I really don't like getting them. I'd rather have a nice hand written note written specifically to m tucked into the regular holiday card with the family picture or whatever you include. It's much more personal. The only reason people send those out is to either shamelessly brag, which we shouldn't do, or to depress everyone by telling them how awful your lives have been all year. Now, there is an exception and that is someone with an illness, I live getting those because I am actually concerned about their cancer and want to know how things are...otherwise just a nice, short, personal note will suffice. This is all my humble opinion.

Don't write things that are depressing or bring people down. I think they are a great way to update others on your life.

I really don't like them. They are very impersonal and are usually boring brag sessions.
