This winter, I will be visiting Madagascar with habitat for humanity. As a part of the trip, I will be visiting an orphanage on Christmas Day and giving them gifts. The problem is, what should I get them? These are children who have been abandoned by their parents and are so poor they dont even have shoes to wear. What would be on these childrens' Christmas wish lists? even the simplest of gifts would make them happy for the longest time.
thanks! any ideas would be really, really appreciated.

... which I consider expensive. However, BF and I almost always stay at the Hilton or other nice Hotel. His family also always stays at nice hotels. My mom has a very nice house and car, but is not doing so well nowdays financially. I do not tell BF about mom's hardships. Anyway, today I found out that he was just making the reservation for her, not paying for the room. I recommended Extended Stay (which is cheaper). Then he was like "but I've already made reservations. Why?" Is he dumb or a jerk? both? neither? what to do?

I want DETAILS! Why? Because this year I will be in a new town (I move next week) where I don't know a soul. I will most likely cook a nice little meal for myself (if I can find all of my cooking utensils!).

I would love to be going to a wonderful family and friend-filled delicious dinner. But, that's not going to happen.

So, I want to live vicariously through you...tell me about your "Martha Stewart" Thanksgiving plans. The details are; what type of food, people, activities planned, etc.

I remember when I was a kid, there were 7 of us plus my parents.
Since my mom and dad have both died, our family has become totally disfunctional. Its such a mess.
What can I do to perk myself up other than work?

I'm traveling for a week to a place that ONLY celebrates 90 days and 1 year anniversary's at the end of the month- should I wait until I come back to my homegroup in 10 days to celebrate or is it ok to celebrate tonight?

I've heard people from both sides of the spectrum- some who argue it's a jinx to celebrate early, even as little as 2 days early to others who agree it's not dramatic to celebrate 2 days early since I'm traveling.

Suggestions?
