Generally, a good time to set up your tree is before the Christmas hustle and bustle get too frantic with shopping, cooking, writing and sending holiday greetings, making and wrapping gifts, parties, and worship celebrations. If you have an artificial tree, the last week of November is a good time, or the first week of December; if you have a real tree, closer to Christmas is probably better, since the tree should still be green and fairly fresh for the holiday.
Give yourself enough time and space to be able to sit and rest by the tree, to enjoy the decorations and ornaments, remember past Christmasses and holidays, during the season.

I would probably set up a dead (cut) holiday tree about 2 weeks before the 25th.

A live tree can probably be set up anytime after Dec. 1st.

December 10th-14th is a good time, unless you have a large tree and its takes a while to decorate, then a few days earlier.

I'd put mine up maybe near early December. If you put it up too early you can get sick of it! Just staring at it everyday.. Anyway. Put it up not too early and not too soon. That way when you know its near, you'd get excited and awaiting for it to come!
