Scrapped on cash this year and want to make homemade gifts. Some of the things I was thinking of doing was making various breads like pumpkin and zuccini. I also have a ton of photos left from my wedding which I never gave out. The thing is I got married two years ago and was needing a creative idea on how to present this as a gift.

Seems like the holidays are the hardest time to avoid hurting people's feelings... it's like it's a competition for who gets to hold their special event on THE holiday and who gets stuck with the leftovers. It always leads to hard feelings and I'm just wondering how other people handle the holidays. Any tactful/graceful ideas? We want to reserve Christmas for our own little family (i.e us and our own kids) but it seems like people are always pushing us to do other stuff with extended family on Christmas day.

Thoughts? ideas?

Ok I am a stay at home mom and we have decided not to buy Christmas gifts this year ( and last year) as not to strain our finances. Last year we bought presents for the younger kids in our extended family but not adults, and the adults in the extended family bought a gift for our daughter. Do we need to announce again that this is how we will be handeling the gift giving because I know my mother in law is buying my husband and I gifts and we do not plan to buy her a gift. i don't want to feel obligated to buy gifts because other family members choose to buy us gifts. I am no scrooge but how do we handle this situation?

If not, why not?

Mine will be to continue the downsizing / stuff clearing I began last year. As an artist and collector of antiques and other cool things, I had boxes and rooms full of stuff I didn't use or need. Over the last year I've gone through everything I owned and probably gotten rid of 1/3 of my total possesions by selling, giving away and throwing away. I'm going to do it again next year!

How do give my friend like those secret chris krinngle gifts?
I'm planning to do it, but I do not know how to! I don't go to the same school she goes to..but I do see her twice a week in Polish School and Volenteer work. But, I do not want to make it obvious that it is me..by making her gifts and putting them on her desk in those locations beacuse it will be obvious it is me.. so how do I give her these gifts?

instead of "Merry Christmas" or "happy Hanukkah"??
All this political correctness has to stop! I guess that some are so afraid of offending ANYBODY, that they end up offending EVERYONE.
"season's greetings" is another one that needs to disappear!!

I bought a cruise for my boyfriend as an Xmas gift. I was a fun way to give it to him though, not just give him a few papers that says we're going on a cruise. On EBay I have purcased a little Southwest airplane, a plastic Princess Cruise ship, postcards from St. Thomas and a mug from St. Maarten. I don't want to arrange them in a basket, I want it to be a bit more challenging, like open one at a time but I don't just want a stack of gifts...what's a good/exciting way to have him open these items that will slowly start to get him mind working and trying to figure how these all tie together?

I don't get hassle off muslims for not turning up at the mosque at Eid, from Jews for not lighting my Chanuka candles or from Hindus and Sikhs for not letting off fireworks for Dvali.

So why, when I don't join in all the Christmassy stuff at work, do I get berated?

Do you really want me to turn up at your religious festivals and take the mickey - because that's how it feels when you go through the motions but don't believe in any of it.

I'm quite partial to a bit of sarcasm, parody and the like, but even I have the courtesy not to ape you while your doing the God bothering bit - just because I don't believe it, doesn't mean you shouldn't be allowed to...

But then leave me alone if I don't want to spend money on trashy cards, crappy presents for somebody I barely speak to and going for schmoozy wine and dine style meals, when I'd rather be at the gym.

What gives? Not everyone wants to be involved, yeah?
