I work for a doctor and his wife is the R.N. in our office, I'm the receptionist, secretary, insurance clerk, etc. Small office, just the 3 of us. I've been there only 2 years. Last year we did nothing about Christmas, but today they took me to lunch as a "thanks" I guess. A very nice restaurant, lovely lunch and a good time. My question is -- I thanked them after lunch - but should I do something else, I'm thinking a "special" Christmas card to re-thank them in writing. I don't want to go overboard but it was a very nice gesture on their part. They are very down to earth, unassuming people. I've been told I'm the first employee they've taken out like this! Is my verbal thanks enuf??

This was on the news show Channel 1 but I just felt like finding out what prople thought:

Should Christmas Trees be allowed to be displayed in public?

And if you think they should, should they be shown with other symbols?

Why or Why not?

-personally I think they should be allowed to be displayed in public because they aren't an example of Christian/Catcholic religion, in fact they have nothing to do with the belief in the Lord Jesus at all. It's just a fun symbol of the holiday season, not the religious holiday.

My dad is giving me 300$ on Friday to go Christmas shopping. He has to work a little extra to get the money at his job. I always get what a want in a short time period. The money is not for me, it is for them but that's not all. I got an 60 gig, Ipod Video for nothing, it was not my birthday or anything. I got a Razr on a random day, but I did not ask for it. He got me a Mini Mac, scanner and computer, plus every month I get a lot of money from their account to mine (my parents.) They bought mw a 5000 dollar pomeranian from Ohio & had it shipped to California. Trust me there is a lot more.

What if I am a customer who does not believe in Christmas? What if I celebrate some other day that is religious or non-religious? Is not this greeting infringing on my right to eschew the Christmas celebration?

Incase no one out here cares enough about the holidays to find out how other cultures celebrate it heres some cool facts: (jk about if ya dont care enoguh)

1) In Urkraine, the house has to be cleaned top to bottom and swept, but if any spider is found it has to be left undisturbed for the enitre day. If not, the main dish must be thrown out.

2) In France, special care is taken to the animals on Christmas Eve because it is believed that the god of Domestic Animals will come to the animals at night. It will give them the magic ability to speak and they will tell him all about how they've been treated throghtout the entire year. If the animal reports bad or cruel things, next years crop growth could be affected. If they report very good things, the family will be hapy and healthy until next Christmas.

When I find more Ill edit this.

Just for clarification I used World Book book's Christmas in Ukraine and Christmas in France for these facts

I already bought my boyfriend the Pioneer surround sound for his XBox 360 and reserved Halo 3. I am also thinking about getting him and iPod and adapter for his car. Do you think this is a good gift idea or should I get him something else? We are in a pretty serious relationship and he has already gotten me a chihuahua puppy for Christmas. Any ideas will be appreciated! Thanks!

I have a big family of about 20 people and at my after-school program, there are about 20 people as well. I have very limited money, only about 35 dollars and I want to get pressnts for everyone. They don't have to be fantastic, but just something to let them know I care. What should I get them?

I feel those sayings are stupid and you should just say merry christmas or happy hanukah or whatever and you should'nt try to protect people's feelings because the majority of american's celebrate christmas even if their not Christian.

Do you hang lights in the windows? Make a special display of nativity with roads and travel paths? Are you the Master tree decorator?

What is it about the way you decorate that makes you noticed or special to others that see your decorations?

We want the attire be generally of guys wearing dress shirts and ladies wearing cocktail dresses. One idea I've heard of is Casino Royale Bond 007 and that's along the lines of what we want, but not quite the James Bond part. Any help?

I was wondering what this Christmas season has been like for you? I do not have kids so it is much different. I was so angry last year when a woman in my building pretty much told me I couldn't enjoy Christmas because I didn't have kids. I was like A) Not your business and B) I can enjoy itt just as well.

Christmas has really changed for me. I do not know where the magic has gone. I was more excited about it when I worked retail then I do working in an office. I think I see how other people behave and it depresses me. For instance, I'm actually afraid to go shopping on Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving). People in my area have been physically injured! Last year a woman stepped infront of another as the store opened its doors, the owman she stepped infront of poured hot coffee down her back! She ended up with 2nd and 3rd degree burns! People, this is not the Christmasy way!

I remember the special times like decorating the tree and baking cookies, sending out cards and of course shopping and receiving gifts. I remember them more that whan I actually got. Christmas dinner my family would laugh the meal away. Church was an extended family. The beliefs I can take or leave but there were really good people that went to my step fathers church.

I'm trying so hard to get that feeling back. I give more to charities than people. I have downscaled everything I buy and give. my office is giving to a needy family instead of to each other (I have bought gifts for certain people and I always attach a small ornament to my Christmas cards).

People really need to step back and think about what it means to them. It is not about the $300 toys. I prefer handmade gifts and smalled meaningful gifts than an xbox.

Let me know what you think!
