I am from Trinidad and Tobago we go paranging around the neighbourhood (sort of caroling) we sing our local parang songs in spanish and English. We prepare pastelles, black cakes, rum punch, ponche de creme, bake bread on the eve as is the norm along with our turkeys, ham and other meats.

I already have some gifts for my wife, from me. I asked the twins what they want to give her for christmas -- one said "a squirt gun", and the other said "whack-a-mole". While I think those would be hilarious gag gifts, I don't think my wife really wants squirt guns and whack-a-mole for christmas.

Something kind of sentimental rather than strictly practical, but still something that the kids can get excited about. Any ideas? I might get the squirt gun and whack-a-mole too, but I need something else.

I'm up to seven - chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, peanut butter balls, snowballs (mexican wedding cakes), thumbprint cookies, magic cookie bars, and sugar cookies. I may also make peppermint bark.

He just moved back home and is just going thru a hard time not having his dad around. I push myself every day to go to work. I got an email yesterday from my boss - she is taking up a collection from the department (10 people) to get the big boss (her boss) a $100 GIFT CARD for Christmas.

1. This big boss has never contributed to anything for any of us. Weddings, babies, retirements, etc. etc. His name is always conspicuously absent from the card.

2. This man makes a LOT of money. Probably $200K a year or more.

3. I find a gift card for the boss VERY inappropriate.

4. Nobody cares for him very much.

HOWEVER, if I do not contribute, it will be very evident that I did not. Both to my boss, and the big boss. I've spoken with two other people in the department, and they are very uncomfortable with it, too, but they will be giving anyway. We work in a very uptight, Fortune 500 company.

Now, if we were taking that $100 and making a donation in his name? I'd be for that. But to give him a gift card?

I am an assistant scoutmaster for my sons' Troop. Last evening the Scoutmaster gave me a Christmas gift, which was the first time ever. What do I do now? Get him something? Tonight will probably the last time I will see him until January. Is it ok that my boys just get him something?
