I have not been home for Christmas in 4 years. I was stationed in Germany and it cost over a $1,000 Euro to get a flight at that time. So now that I work at Fort Riley Kansas I will be going home to Illinois.
My mom can hardly wait to see me and I can not wait to get home!

Short version: I'm going to my parents' farm in Pennsylvania.
Longer version: My folks retired from the DC Metro area, where they were perfect yuppies (I say that in the nicest sense of the word). They moved to a sheep farm (and yes, they have sheep) in Pennsylvania. It's downright adorable. They even have a sheepdog who is afraid of the sheep.
I'm flying from my home of one year in Boston with my cat as carry-on because it actually will cost less than to board her. We'll fly into BWI where my parents will pick us up and drive an hour and a half down into suburban Virginia for late lunch at our favorite Tex-Mex place. Then we'll drive three hours back to the farm.
My sister's husband is from England and they haven't spent Christmas Day with his family since they got married so she won't be home for Christmas this year. It'll be different for sure. I'll miss her. My mom and dad and I will go to Outback Steakhouse for Christmas Eve dinner - that is one of our traditions because Mom does SO much cooking on Christmas day. I'm sure that despite the fact that I'm 30 years old and will be the only "kid" home this year, Mom and Dad will still take pictures of me hanging my stocking. Some family traditions should be outgrown, I think.
I can't wait to get out of this Type A city for a week. I'm from the South and I just haven't gotten used to New England yet....
Merry Christmas everyone!

We always stay home on Christmas day. Usually, after opening presents, I am cooking most of the day, while my husband picks up the wrapping paper and boxes from opened gifts.

My family will spend the weekend preceding Christmas at both sets of grandparents homes having dinner with them.
Christmas Day is the day that we stay at home and enjoy our own day of togetherness.

My little one and I are going to bake cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve. We are going to open presents Christmas morning and probably go out to dinner that evening. I have to work that night though.
